AFC Liverpool Grassroots - Initial Proposal

Dont think anyone would be holding a grudge against Liverpool itself, rather the way top flight football is going and the men in charge. I would bet the first result all the fans would check would be to see how Liverpool done.

exactly. its not an anti Liverpool FC thing, its an anti corporate thing generally.

i'd expect many of the people who came along to watch would still go to Anfield (or Bangkok maybe) or wherever we're playing to watch LFC too.

In the old days, we had one sub so when LFC were away from home, Anfield was packed with people watching the reserves (it was a meaningful contest at the time). And I mean packed in to watch them.

Why not a similar thing now. Why an either or. When I watched Kenny Dalglish and the likes my emotional AND aesthetic buttons were pressed. No matter how good Torres is, my emotional buttons aren't pressed in the same traditional way as they once were, so there's a gap waiting to be filled.

What's wrong with being part of a red run club to fill that gap, while still going to watch the reds if you want to?

Its not an either/or situation. Even if it will be to some of us who either can't stomach the way the game has finally crossed that line, or can't afford to get into the game or travel to Miami.

some do, but they are deluded. this is a lab test. if its more profitable to hold a match in Shanghai than it is at Anfield they'll tell us the experiment was hugely successful and deserves to be extended.

looks like marine is the senior team in the area non league wise.

i'm not sure what their structure is. is it privately owned, or owned by fans on a provident society style model?

the first step is to develop a pool of keen people. from that, the skills required tend to be there. but the pool of people is the first step and this won't ever be set up be one or two individuals.

Well put. I dont think this should be an anti-liverpool organisation, but more a body motivated by that which made the game of football great in the first place.

FC United dont get a big following because they are Anti-Utd. Everyone goes for 2 reasons. Anti-Glazer being one (which I think is the lesser reason now) and also because its a team that Mancs can support as their own ala Utd and it doesnt cost a forune to do so.

If a 'new' Liverpool sprouted up as a copy then I think it would draw all those LFC local fans that dont/cant go the game and also, LFC are playing away or at tat different time, could draw in a lot of match go-ers to support a small team that prides its self on the club we all love.

I do not see it as an alternative to LFC at all. I wouldnt stop suddenly supporting Liverpool.

Perhaps this isn't the best place to post this but as much as I admire Alun's passion and love for LFC and footy in general, I just don't agree with the idea of setting up another club called AFC Liverpool Grassroots (or whatever its final name would be)

Any new institution created WONT be LFC nor will it be affiliated with LFC - so surely the existing structure of football clubs on Merseyside needn't be altered to allow Scousers and people close by to pick another Liverpool-based team to follow - most non-league clubs are dying on their arses through lack of cash, why not put the money into one of these? It's local, it's Liverpool, and it's real football - exactly what you're after, surely?

Thats pretty much what I said in the other thread.

AFC Liverpool would be to non league what Manchester United are to the Premier League.

AFC was traditionally used to denote an amateur football club I believe. I'd envisage this would be semi pro mind you but i used it as its a shorthand that many people will instantly recognise.
