since when do teams playing on the counter have the majority of possession?

If anyone played on the counter it was the Chavs mate.

TBh i think both teams wanted to play on the counter attack. I got the feeling Grant felt by sitting back they could frustrate us like so many mid-bottom table sides do.

every side does that against us. Its proven to work. Even the mancs did it, the only side that plays football against us is Arsenal. Until we get players that have the quality to unlock packed defenses we will continue to struggle

I thought it was a good team performance. I was surprised to see Rafa bring on Pennant for Babel.........was Benni on the bench?
          Dare we believe

Skrtel should've got man of the match - very tidy. Leiva is a little lightweight at this time and was quite easily muscled off the ball. Kuyt was the usual but did well in the second half. Mascherano owned Makalele in some stages but Makalele was still pretty good for an old timer!

Maybe our good performance coincided with the fact that we didnt hoof the ball from the back.

                  No doubt that helped

We have missed Agger but for me Hyypia would be in my top 3 for the season.

That's a fair point actually, at different times, both sides played counter attack.

I stayed up all night (started at 2.30am here) to watch a 0-0. Chelsea sat way back early on. At one stage I thought we were going to be passing it between the back 4 for 5 minutes before Chelsea decided to move back into their own half.

Rafa had a win yesterday and more importantly the players looked in tune again for the first time in a long while. I'm feeling more confident now, for sure.

It's weird how different the perspective can be compared with being at the game and watching on tv...

I came home to find most media pundits saying how 'boring' the game was - i didnt find it boring, it was an interesting tactical battle, almost chess-like at times and i wasnt bored by it.

I may have given the wrong impression. I wasn't bored by it at all really, I just realised early on that the final score was more than likely going to be 0-0. I actually enjoyed it a lot because I was having doubts whether Rafa was going to turn it around.

Yesterdays performance showed me he will.

I wasnt really referring to you implying it was boring mate, it's more the emphasis with which the tv and radio people used to express how 'boring' they found it.

I thought it was an interesting game and enjoyed it far more than most of our games in the last couple of months.

Considering the 1st 15min of commentry was typical anti-rafa, so hoping for an early Chelsea goal, I was happy to see us shut them up so quick.

We played pretty bloody well considering. Good thread.

It was a boring match, DJS. The referee did not help none whatsoever. Too stop start. The best action was the Manc lover being dropped by Mascherano. Great stuff. Only two shots on target from both sides, tells the story. We went in with the mentality of not losing and they didn't try to go for it in the last 15 minutes.
