We battered them, threw everything at them. Typically their keeper played the game of his life and they hacked everything away and stretched every sinew to defend. At around 60 minutes I knew we wouldn't score against these again - one of those days. I didn't think we could lose though. We switched off at the end, we'd accepted the draw. Carra's header was woeful and yet again another mistake off his created the chance for the goal (Carra is not having a good season by his standards). Itandje showed his erracticness of his keeping. Athletic, capable of reading the play, punching and great reaction saves. But also capable of hesitancy and poor positioning. I'm afraid in my book he cost us 2 goals. And up front - if we had 2 natural finishers up there, like the Robbie of old, we'd have buried them 4 or 5. But Crouch can't finish from 2 yards, Kuyt isn't instinctive enough to put his foot through the ball either, instead at times prefering to try and chest the ball down from 6 yards out when surounded by fella desperately trying to get anything on the ball. Crouch/Kuyt just aren't good enough at the top level to play week in wek out and lead a team to league glory.
It also sickens me to think our lot are on 40K upwards a week and some of them look like they dont give a flying ****. Whatever their excuses, whether it be off the field or dressing room or managerial problems, it shouldn't ****ing matter when they are on the pitch. The club and the result should come first and foremost. Some of them lot should be made to pay back their ****ing wages for robbing us lot of a performance.
But for all I can rant and rave and analyse this performance, the sad sad thing for me is that I am starting to lose the faith in Rafa. These performances are too common now. We've been ****e at Anfield all season. We plug the gaps away from home, sort that one out, then leaks spring up at Anfield instead. It's becoming a free for all now at home - all manner of teams can turn up and with the right set up and tactics, get a result of sorts. I mean, Barnsley, for all we outplayed them and they defended like heros, had 2 chances give or take, and thats all it took. Now they will be lauded like heros by the media whilst once again we get subjected to the laughter of the nation, which seems to have been the way all season. But as I was saying, it pains me to say, Rafa, I'm losing the faith.
I know many of you lot went ages ago, but I still cling to what he did at Valencia, and what I've seen him do here in the 1st 3 years. But now we're a laughing stock on the pitch as much as we are off it. We can't play lowly opposition and cruise to a win. They expect a result and have been getting them. Someone pointed out above who we have beaten in 2008 and it is cringe worthy to think about. To be honest, I also didn't fancy a return trip to Barnsley, I think that had Burnley written all over it.
So its a sad sad day for me, as I coming to the conclusion that this malaise isn't going to shift until a new regime comes in. Things look very very stale at the moment. I haven't completely lost the faith yet, but it is wavering badly
