McMahon: "Fans should protest against Rafa's rotation system"

    2.54 in :whatever:

Biggest nonsense I've heard in the aftermath of the defeat v Barnsley, and I include DJS' and Nic83's posts in that.

Add this clown to the list of bandwagon jumping media line towing tabloid muppets who masquerade as Liverpool legends :whatever:

    Absolutely pathetic.

That comment from manager of the year Steve McMahon. These ex players love the club so much that they have to throw more fuel into the fire. (or more to the point is that they need money in their arse pockets and not being controversial does not cut it these days)
“Hicks could have purchased Dallas’ MLS franchise but decided not to. ‘In hindsight, I probably made the wrong decision,’ he said.“.

I imagine it was said in the heat of the moment. I dont think the fans should be protesting against the manager at the game.

I also dont think there's anything wrong with ex-players, who think rafa has taken us as far as he can, wanting someone else to come in.

The rotation debate and in comparison with how others managers use it is irrelevant.

The way Benitez rotates means that players have no incentive to perform, because play well or poorly, it's no guarantee they will or won't be picked for the next game.

And as a result players have no form and the team has no cohesion.

It's a problem all of the managers own doing and results like yesterday merely give more ammo to the doubters.

And I think it's unfair to blame a media bandwagon on this one, if we were top of the league nothing would be said about it. But let's be honest, it's part of the reason we're miles away.

Show me players lacking motivation because of Rafa's rotation system and I will show you gutless people lacking professional pride and integrity. In these circumstance I blame the players as much if not more than the manager.

Accept the lack of cohesion argument, and I've been saying for a few weeks now that in the face of a rut of form we need to be playing a settled line-up and formation to build understanding, confidence amongst the players.

But talk of being wrong to rest Gerrard, you play your strongest team v Barnsely etc, is media towing, bandwagon jumping nonsense, and sadly some of our former players are amongst the most guilty parties.

Dhav mate, isnt it logical to say that if a player plays well, he's justified in thinking he's earnt his place for the next game, and that if he does indeed play well and is still dropped, it's likely to leave him disillusioned and somewhat demotivated?

It wasn't said in the heat of the moment. I was watching the stream of that channel, and he was talking about it during both the hal and full time intervals. Brucie was sat next to him agreeing like a lap dog.

              That's the one...

Well possibly mate. But this is Rafa's system, and these players should have gotten used to it by now, plus it's been successful for him and for them. They all get their fair share of games and they should accept they wont be playing every game. So I dont see why they should have a problem with it.

For me the bigger problem for the players should be playing different systems every week because they struggle to adapt and get any cohesion and momentum going. It's the changing of systems I have more of an issue with than rotation.

During the course of the match is still heat of the moment IMO. I dont think the tension and passion goes away, even during HT.

It's human nature mate. If you're at work and your career progression is independent of performance levels, you'd surely be peeved. It makes you think 'why should i bother?' and there's nothing wrong with that.

As for it being successful, i guess it depends on the definition of success. League-wise, i wouldnt say it's been successful. Not in England anyway.

The changing of systems is also a problem as you say. It's tied in with players being played out of position. Same as they'll struggle to get to grips with a different system each week, no player can perform comfortably and well in a foreign position. It's just not natural to them and while they'll give it a go, it's clearly likely to have a negative effect on how well they play.

If the players are thinking "why should I bother", then I can give them 45,362 reasons why, and any player who has that qn in his mind when he goes out on the pitch lacks the moral fibre and integrity to play for Liverpool, and I'd sooner they left than Rafa.

This rotation system has gotten the majority of these players CL and FA Cup winners medals plus another CL final appearance. In the league it has gotten us a Liverpool Prem record points tally of 82 pts, so the potential is there for it to be successful in both cups and leagues

I agree that the whole playing players out of position thing for the sake of the system is a real problem that has a detrimental affect on the players.
