Fickle *******s on here at times fair play.

Lucas played well though I agree and I like the lad, he will undoubtedly go on to become a very important squad player.

Alonso hasn't been playing well for over a year now and even before then his form has never touched the heights of his first season.

Anyone can see this. It's not fickle. He's still a very good player but no way is he one of the best midfielders in the world like we hoped he'd be.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

Me neither. He needs to do a lot more in my book. Too earky to tell yet.

If I was writing a half-term of 3/4 term report it would say "average".

I'm on the fence with Lucas at the moment, I think he will develop into a very good player and I'm sure we haven't seen any where near the form he produced in Brazil but I'm a little unsure what sort of player he is, is he defense, box to box, playmaker? I haven't really seen enough of him to make a judgement but he had a very good game tonight.

exactly right. For me, he was largely un noticable in his last couple of games (and he was subbed in both which would back me up). Didn't do anything special in the first 60 minutes tonight either. Hasn't stood out at all yet so far too early to be forming a strong opinion.

I wouldn't say that he's better than Xabi yet BUT he's got a few good touches, he's a good passer and seems of the right mentality. He must be a class player if he's won the young Brazilian player of the year award.

We need to see a lot more of him. He hasn't been given much of a run out to be fair. I hate to admit it but Anderson at Utd has a much better touch and a lot more skill than him. Admittedly he has had a lot more games than Lucas has.

Lucas looks a bit spooked to me in some games, considering he's Brazilian I thought he'd be pulling off a lot more tricks and that. I'm not saying that he's not good enough. I acknowledge that he's only a youngster and all but he still has a lot to prove in the long term.

I think next year will be a good year for him.

i thought that he played really well along side mascher, and that the two of them together looked really good tonight. thought when we took him off we lost something for a bit, especially with gerrard playin deeper, but definately a good performance from him.

lets hope he can do it again against boro, tho i would like to see more urgency, or speed in aiding a break

further point of praise goes to steve finnan. good to see him back approaching his best, especially second half

I think he is limiting himself, keeping it simple, playing it safe, etc to avoid mistakes. He's only young and has just broken into the team, so this is to be expected. I didn't expect him to even break into the rotation this season considering the class we possess on paper in the center of the park, yet here he is playing in our most vital game of the season. while he wasn't spectacular he didn't put a foot wrong either. there was one piece of brilliance from him that really caught my eye: aurelio was making a run down the left and lucas clipped a no look, perfectly weighted ball to him in stride

                        i was impressed anyway

Alonso is going through a bad spell. But it would be stupid to write him off. He'll come back.

                            Me too.

Thought he was very tidy, kept t simple and didn't lose possession very much at all. Promising player is what I'd say at the moment.
