I'd hazard a guess that 95% of Gerrard's set-pieces - be it corners or free kicks - hit the first man....which is criminal. Why does he take them? I argue this all the time - he's 6 foot plus. He should be in the box looking to get his head on the end of a corner, not taking them. Alternatively he could loiter on the edge of the box to smash the ball back in - as he did against Arsenal a good few years ago.
Aurelio too. FFS. I've always been patient with him cos I like actual footballers rather than long-distance runners/athletes. He can clearly play but his delivery last night was ****ing woeful. Inexplicably poor.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
To be so poor at set-pieces is a crime; it's one of a teams best chances of scoring and we have to be the worst in the league at them - and this when historically Hyypia was such a threat (remember Gary Mac putting many a cross on Hyypias head)
Our free-kicks really annoy me. We line up either Riise/Aurelio or Gerrard. One man stands over ball and everybody can see who`s to shut. How hard can it be to have a player on each side of the ball, so we have some sort of choice.
Aurelio was supposed to be a "free kick specialist" when we signed him, but I can't remember him ever taking a decent free-kick.
Corners really drive me crazy though, the number of corners we take badly makes me wonder if we ever practice taking them! But aside from when we had Gary Mac I can't remember a time in the last 10+years when we've been particularly good at them!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Our best corner last night was the short one where Hyypia headed over the bar. A little invention is what is needed. There were times when the ball could have been pulled back to Masher on the 18yrd line in loads of space and it was never done.
