Rafa's inability to see how **** gerrard is at them and Gerrard's delusions that he's the shizzzzzzzzzzz at them =

      Absolutely woeful.

I'd hazard a guess that 95% of Gerrard's set-pieces - be it corners or free kicks - hit the first man....which is criminal. Why does he take them? I argue this all the time - he's 6 foot plus. He should be in the box looking to get his head on the end of a corner, not taking them. Alternatively he could loiter on the edge of the box to smash the ball back in - as he did against Arsenal a good few years ago.

Aurelio too. FFS. I've always been patient with him cos I like actual footballers rather than long-distance runners/athletes. He can clearly play but his delivery last night was ****ing woeful. Inexplicably poor.

Agreed. Awful delivery last night from both Gerrard and Aurelio.

Needs a lot of work. a LOT.

I share your pain brother. Cannot even beat the first defender with set pieces. A shambles really.

Babel was poor at the weekend, good to see him not taking any corners.

Maybe Lucas should get a chance or possibly Finnan. Finnan less so, he floats his balls and it would be food and drink for the keeper.

To be so poor at set-pieces is a crime; it's one of a teams best chances of scoring and we have to be the worst in the league at them - and this when historically Hyypia was such a threat (remember Gary Mac putting many a cross on Hyypias head)

I;ve said this before, but why does Carra go up for corners?

                Utterly pointless.

Even the 'chance' he had in the first half last night was going well wide before it hit the defenders arm.
                Oh I don't know.

There is little variation, its generally poor delivery, and we rarely get to the second ball. All in all a shambles.

Our free-kicks really annoy me. We line up either Riise/Aurelio or Gerrard. One man stands over ball and everybody can see who`s to shut. How hard can it be to have a player on each side of the ball, so we have some sort of choice.

we could always try the joke that was Sheffield UT's set piece the other day!

Aurelio was supposed to be a "free kick specialist" when we signed him, but I can't remember him ever taking a decent free-kick.

Corners really drive me crazy though, the number of corners we take badly makes me wonder if we ever practice taking them! But aside from when we had Gary Mac I can't remember a time in the last 10+years when we've been particularly good at them!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

alonso is the only one i've any faith in to take a set piece and I dont think rafa rates him any more

but like all the greats it will burn out some day

The first one he took for us, I think hit the bar, against Sheffield Utd last season.

All down hill after that though.
                            Oh I don't know.

Our best corner last night was the short one where Hyypia headed over the bar. A little invention is what is needed. There were times when the ball could have been pulled back to Masher on the 18yrd line in loads of space and it was never done.
