Bet you thought we'd beat Wigan, Brum, Villa, Spurs etc at home too...Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWe are not struggling though, we will be 4th on Wednesday. We have come out of a bad patch and we'll go on a winning streak. I'm still failing to see how we are negative, negative teams don't control games like we do.
Dont count your chickens.

He can get the best out of it.Originally posted by DJS View PostWhat's the use if he cant get the best out of it?
You seem to be impressed by the squad he's put together yet refuse to give him a semblance of credit for it.
He has failings and he has strengths, like all managers. I believe given the time to see out the job (he is barely halfway through the 'project') - as Wenger was when they came a distant 4th, twice - then he'll win the league. Some Arsenal fans were calling for his head last year yet they've defied all internet messageboard logic by leaping from stragglers in 4th place to mounting a proper title challenge.
There is absolutely no reason why Benitez can't do that with us.
It is a cast-iron fact that without Rafa we'd have no Torres, no Reina, no Mascherano and no Alonso. He is slowly but surely putting together a top class squad and he should be afforded patience and time to see it out. This short-termist kneerjerking will get us nowhere. Back to square one with a new manager. No thanks. Rome wasn't built in a day.Last edited by Shaggy; 02-03-08, 07:58 PM.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The strikers replaced Morientes and Cisse.
Hardly upgrades were they?
Not having a go at Rafa here, I think he's mostly bought well.
Just pointing out the flawed premise of AF's arguement.
Finnan----Carra-----Hyypia----????
----------????----Gerrard---------
????---------------------------????
-----------????------????---------
The above is more or less the staring position Rafa had when it comes down to the good enough players for a title challenge.
Do you think that we would have won or even qualified for the CL if Rafa had bought one or two players instead of four or five the first season? Remember, no money for Rafa if we miss out on a CL place, no money at all.
It takes time to build up a good enough squad and the goalposts are moved all the time.
A lot of our players also was on big wages and not good enough, and that means more or less unsaleable. So Rafa had to use them until he could find someone crazy enough to buy them.
If he hadn't played them then he would end up with a lot of unhappy players that he couldn't sell, not good enough, and that would mean a worse performance on the pitch, and that means no CL and that in returns means no money to sign new players.
In the end it would have been Rafa out.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Arsenal will probably finish third in the PL, knocked out in the SF in the CC, last 16 in the CL and last 16 in the FA Cup.
I can't call that success. I call that not good enough and Wenger will be under a lot of pressure next season.
If we finish fourth in the PL and gets through to the SF of the CL, then Rafa has again made a better season than Wenger.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
