Wenger is the exception that proves the rule.

It's not a rule if there's an exception.

The prove in this cliche comes from the old english meaning to test (as in 'proving grounds'). If one takes the modern meaning of proove it becomes all but meaningless as a phrase (not that it has ever stopped it being used).

However I think a slightly better way of looking at it is to say that it is more of a statistical trend that the richest clubs win more things which is undoubtedly true and Wenger's ability in the transfer market is a marked anomaly. It is also worth pointing out that (at least potentially until this season) in the period of time Rafa has been at LFC Wenger's policy has not resulted in a league win either.

We are not struggling though, we will be 4th on Wednesday. We have come out of a bad patch and we'll go on a winning streak. I'm still failing to see how we are negative, negative teams don't control games like we do.

is the season over? did we win (again) today? if we go on a decent run we could nick 3rd, win the CL finish the season maybe only 8-10 points behind the winners.

hopefully the ownership issue will be sorted for the better by then and with another 3 priority targets in the camp mount the title challenge next year, why not?

To be fair you are using a hypothetical situation in which we are 4th on goal difference as a counter argument here. I think we have to accept that at this point we are involved in a struggle for 4th. Even if on th eother hand we could end up nicking third as has been pointed out.
