I didn't assume you were on a windup just because you disagreed with me...Not at all, I was just covering my arse in case you were taking the piss

    Anyway, not that it matters.

So Torres has been rested for 2 league games, and Gerrard what, 1? That isn't exactly a big deal is it? And maybe if it is Rafa has learnt from his mistake in that regard as he hasn't rested either since.

so rafa could of bought eto/villa then but chose bellamy?

swp was dismmissed out of hand for pennant?

so moores said to rafa" right mate, heres a blank cheque, go and buy some quality, no expense spared" but not "hmm, funds are tight at the mo and until we get bought out transfers will only be possible if we sell first but try and keep it to a minimum, theres a good chap"

fergie got his TOP targets that (and every other) year, as did maureen

but you really believe that rafa turned down top quality to by bellamy/pennant?

you have totally lost the plot mate, if indeed you ever had it. but your entitled to your opinions though.
No, i'm saying Rafa decided to buy numerous players, instead of quality ones.

                Right back at ya, nevermind

I understand your negativity and frustration, as I (think) you're a fair bit older than me (21) and you've suffered a bit more in this title chase...and to be honest I understand your reservations over Rafa (during our lowest point recently even I did). I really think he will deliver the title though. The number of games we've drawn this year indicates to me we're only a couple of consistent match winners away from a genuine title challenge. Defensive errors have cost us this season, as have injuries, and a whole host of other things, including Rafa, but keep the faith

I dont think he HAD to. He bought numerous average players, several of which werent much better than the deadwood he'd previously shipped out. Except, they cost far more than he'd received for the deadwood.

THIS is why he 'couldnt' spend big on top players - he chose to fill the squad with average backups instead of top quality first teamers.

I dont CHOOSE to lack the faith though, i wish i DID believe Rafa would win the league. I cant help how i feel though, sadly. *sigh*

The difference is that the deadwood he shipped out was on very high wages and the new players he signed that wasn't that much better was on much lower wages.

Crouch £20k/week is a great example compared to Diao on £50k/week. That's a difference of £1.5m/year.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Yeah granted, but the deadwood generally went for about £1m a time, whereas the replacements cost about £6m each, PLUS the £1m/£2m p/annum in wages. It was a hugely costly exercise and is the reason why he 'couldnt' sign top players. It was a choice, it wasnt forced upon him.

                          Judge him next season

disclaimer: i'm sure you're sick of the 'next season' attitude but next season will be the true measure of him, imo...more level playing field and all that...anyway I doubt i'm convincing you AT ALL but nevermind, i'm off for me tea

I'd forgotten why I don't bother reading much in the LFC forum any more.

The first half page of this thread was enough to remind me.

Can't be bothered reading the rest. No offence to everyone who made good and interesting points.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I hear what you're saying about next season, but again, i cant help but have a general feeling about what he's achieved thus far and what i feel he will achieve in future. I suppose it's like if you have an employee who has been with you a certain time, but is still short of their 'review' period. You obviously have to wait til that time before making your official judgement, but during the leadup to that, you see how he's performing and that still impact on your opinion of him. Hope that makes sense.

                              Enjoy your dinner.

When the Academy players are coming through in a couple of years time, then it's time to judge him because the Academy is a big part of his plans.

Say for example that Nemeth and Insua will make it, then it will save us £30m+.
