I think the futures of Pennant, Kewell and Crouch are somewhat related. These are the players we would use if we were playing 4-4-2, wingers who can put the cross in and Crouch as the receiver of said crosses.

Lately we have been playing 4-2-3-1 with Babel and Kuyt on the wings and Torres upfront. Using that system we need the wingers (Babel and Kuyt) to offer some goalthreat, say what you want about Kuyt he scores more that Pennant. Kuyt can cross and shoot, Pennant can only cross. Kuyt is no good playing as a winger in 4-4-2 but he has been decent to good lately.

If Rafa intends to favour the latter system we need more wingers in who can score and cross, like Simao who would have fitted in nicely I think.

      Oh dear.

The clue is in the original post, if you'd bothered reading it. The fact that he's being included in fewer and fewer matchday squads. Bit of a clue.

I think that coincides with us going with 4-2-3-1 recently instead of 4-4-2

I don't see any way back for Kewell and Riise.
Not sure about Pennant - I think Rafa will keep him tbh.

I don't know why everyone is so sure that Voronin is a goner.
I personally would defintely like him replaced, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if none of our strikers are shipped out - unless they really want to leave.
And I can't see any of them wanting to leave.

            Voronin £1m?

            Guthrie £2-3m?

We're looking at at least £20m incoming.
Riise has 12 months left on his contract this summer

Cant see even someone as daft as Keegan paying £5 million for him

Crouch will be given an extension to his contract though. To allow the club to cash in on him next season. It was the same with Momo.

As for Riise, I think if we get £ 3m pounds for him, it will be a good deal anyway.

You're probably right but I don't see why Pennant couldn't play in Kuyt's role in that formation.

Rafa probably prefers Kuyt's discipline over Pennant's flair. But to be fair, if you look at stats, Kuyt may be the more effective player of the two because he creates more clear cut situations than Pennant. Am not sure on that but it could be the reason.

I`m just sick of the player slagging that become endemic on this site.Considering the players Rafa wanted but lfc couldn`t afford in his position as a 3rd choice winger Pennant hasn`t done that bad.

there are too many threads slagging off rafa`s 2nd or 3rd choice players.Don`t blame the players or the manager, blame Moores for making Rafa shop in the bargain basement when our opposition where buying "World Class".
things have changed since the Yanks arrived and now we can buy Rafa`s 1st choices.A few more seasons of 20+ million pound players and we might have a chance.

I think we need more of a goal threat there, Rafa seems to like the wingers in 4231 to cut inside, Kuyt and Babel do that well, effectively we have 4 attackers and Pennant though he can be used is not a goal threat. I'm just debating this by the way, I'm not saying this is the case.

If we have wingers in this system who can score we don't need two strikers and it's harder to defend against, not to mention the attacking midfielder running off the striker.

You only have to look at Morse' lists for the last two seasons,he don't do to bad

You'll have to show me the "slagging off" and "blame" in this thread that you're referring to. I must've missed it.

I take it, therefore, you won't be contributing to any thread in future that discusses outgoing transfers.

That role in my opinion needs someone who will chip in with a few goals Pennant won't do that, Kuyt isn't ideal in that position either, hopefully summer will see us signe someone more suited to that role than either Kuyt or Pennant

I was gonna say. Replacing the impotent Pennant with the slightly less impotent Kuyt isn't ideal. I'd've thought Benayoun would be the ideal candidate (in our squad, at least) to play there.

Kuyt has been playing well recently, I think he'll stay and surprise a few, as a striker he is no good but I think he's finally understanding his role or maybe Rafa gave him a new one. Kuyt, Babel and Torres together are capable of unsettling most defences I think.
