My dad gave up his season ticket around 1971 when I was born and we moved house and I'm pretty sure he said it was about £7

I found this which shows that a ticket for the cup final was £1 that year!

Have just done some quick calculations.

            a) Allowing for inflation (RPI) a ticket should now cost £16.80 if it was £12 in 1995/6. The actual cost of a ticket today is £32

            b) Average weekly earnings for full-time males 2006 = £410
            Average weekly earnings for full-time males 2008 = £498

If you are on national average weekly wages, then one ticket would cost you just under 3% of your weekly wage in 1996, but now costs you nearly six and a half percent.

So you could argue that the real price of a ticket has almost doubled, and affordability of a ticket has halved, over the last 12 years alone. And 1996 was already a few years into the Sky boom.

All very rough and ready though, haven't got the time or the inclination to do anything much more detailed today.

Yep. To be honest it's difficult to find prices because before 1971 the''re in old money and you have to remember that it wasn't until the 90's that you had to get tickets for the match , you just went and payed in to stand up which was a hell of a lot cheaper so even if you find stand prices the terraces were well cheaper.

I remember going to all the aways in the 1987-88 season and I'm pretty sure it was still between £2.50-£4.50 to stand up in most grounds.

Ok Paul posted his £1 ticket to get to the cup final. According to measuringworth.com that (in today's money) would be £10.19

Can you imagine the FA Cup final being a tenner to get in???

So from mid 40s to mid 80s season tickets stayed pretty much constant in price at around 100 quid

And that was for 21 games remember not 19.

So per match you're talking about £4.75

What the **** happened in the last 20 years!!??

I might be wrong, it was a long time ago, but I'm sure I was paying 4 shillings for the Kop in the early sixties.
I had not long left school and was earning about 3 pounds a week.

and Gerrard is on 100k a week (?) and Ian Callaghan in the 60's - £10 a week?????

It's not just admission prices which have been distorted in the last 15 years or so.
