Gerrard deserved the criticism he got after a few games earlier in the season just like every other player when they don't put in a 100% effort.

I won't complain to much if a player plays a bad game as long as he work his socks off for the team.

His performances in the Scum game, Wigan, Birmingham at home were not Captain material, he was ****e at the Riverside and Reading as well.
That's not blaming one player btw, the majority of the team were ****e in them games but i thought as Captain etc Gerrard could have played a bigger role.

I think the criticism of Gerrard as a player is a bit unfair. He can't be expected to turn every game for us and be imperious in every game, as has already been pointed out that isn't possible. I think you have a point in that Gerrards leadership ability relies on him giving others and example to follow and when he is off form he doesn't seem to help those around him. However I would say the absence of someone who does is a responsibility that lies with the squad as a whole and with Rafa.

I would like to think that was more to do with players not playing in positions that were asked of them, maybe not understanding them. I will never accept that he sent a side out against Wigan at home with a 5 man midfield. Remember the formation he played at Valencia, it is now starting to come together. Earlier in the season I think it was more to do with players not fully understanding their roles in this formation. Now they are more used to it I think they do.

I'd like to think that the players picked that side against Reading in the league themselves, and decided it was a good idea to play Crouch wide left.

I agree he has made mistakes but more to do with players in positions as opposed to formation which is what I am talking about. The idea behind the formation has not changed but the personnel has.

I am not sure thats the case really. They should not affect performance on the pitch and I still have not heard a good enough argument to explain why it should
