Yes, without the need to dig it further, I think Robbie was.
He was the one truly last prolific striker we got (before Torres).
Yes, it's a tad harsh on Owen, but I never thought of Michael ever in the same class as Robbie, finishing wise.

The way he stroked that ball and his incredible knack of being in the right place all the time, add to that the fact that he could score with his right foot, left foot and head with equal precision.
Remember that hat trick against Arsenal, when we won 3-1 ? He scored with his head, right and left foot.

A few years ago I had an interesting disscussion with a guy at work about Owen. He was one of those fair minded types, although he WASa Leeds fan! His opinion was that Owen always palyed to the limit of his skill, by that he meant that if you watch him, he was always stretching for the ball. He never had it really under control, and his lightning speed of foot enabled him to make up for a fairly poor first touch. I wasnt impressed with his argument at the time, but if you watch Owen play you can see what he means. A lot of the time Owen is 'controling' the ball with an outstreched straight leg, and has to make a second very quick dash to get away from a defender and make the chance. Now at the end of the day we dont really care about the technicalities of stuff like that if wre winning matches, but I think it's catching up with Owen as he loses ithe cutting edge of his speed. It may also account a little for th type of injuries he got/gets.
On a slightly different note, the season that Rushie got 40 odd goals for us was ridiculous.
Not sure exactly how many he ended up with, but they seemd to go in off any pary of his body, it was like he just had to be there and crossed would hit him and fly in. he even scored one with his arse!!!!!

Agree, though Robbie did once miss the sitter of the century at the Kop end. Over the bar from less than a yard out, centre of goal. OuchOriginally posted by Icon View PostRobbie was way way ahead of Owen for natural goalscoring ability.
He could find the goal with his head up his arse.

We can go on for hours about those chances cant we!!!! Rushie at Wembeley v. everton, also a yard out, centre goal, over the bar!! and of course, Ronnie R v. Villa...........beats three men, rounds the goalie, steadies himself and hits the bar!!!!!Originally posted by MattB View PostAgree, though Robbie did once miss the sitter of the century at the Kop end. Sorry but that is a myth, I checked that up two, three years back when I was bored, Owen scored in more % of the games than Robbie but I agree with that Fowler is the better and more complete player.Originally posted by MattB View PostRobbie was far and away the better player compared with Owen. Owen used to score in twos and threes when he scored, but had far too many 'barren spells'. Lots of his goals came in games that were already won, which served to bump up his total. Robbie just banged them in week in week outJust believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Says it allOriginally posted by MattB View PostAgree, though Robbie did once miss the sitter of the century at the Kop end. Over the bar from less than a yard out, centre of goal. OuchThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
