    Bruna signs professional contract

    Not seen this posted anywhere...

Argentine starlet Gerardo Bruna has signed his first professional contract at Liverpool which will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2010.

The 17-year-old midfielder joins Spanish youngsters Daniel Pacheco and Daniel Ayala in signing pro-contracts with the club.

Bruna, who came from Real Madrid's youth Academy, is an attacking left sided midfield player who has been a regular member of Gary Ablett's reserve team squad this season.

"Gerardo has a lot of talent and he is one for the future," Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv.

He seems to be being eased in very gently. I've seen little bits of him on the telly and he's looked skilful but lightweight.

I went to the recent reserve game against United and he was a sub. I know this isn't really relevant in any way at all, but **** me, he was uber-impressive in his half-time warm up with the other subs. Absolutely outrageous skill.

I think the sub keeper that night was Gulacsi. At one point Bruna was standing on or near the penalty spot, and he chipped Gulacsi in the most incredible fashion....he chipped the ball steeply up, over the keeper and then right down, into the top corner, from just 12 yards.

He looks about 14 - short and of very, very slight build.

Sounds promising! Lets hope he can put on some weight and adapt to the english game.

Is this the guy that the Spanish tabloids (unfairly) dubbed "The New Messi"?

I'll answer my own question here.

Dubbed the new Lionel Messi, Gerardo Bruna has shunned signing professional forms with Real Madrid and opted to join Liverpool instead (similar fashion to how Cesc Fabregas joined Arsenal).
The 16 year old argentinian is half spanish and has an EU passport so he won't require a work permit to join Liverpool. The talented midfielder was very highly rated by Real Madrid and arrives with a big reputation.
He will probably be one of the few youth players who is capable of making the step up to the first team but it'll be another couple of years before we find out.

i know he's highly rated and all by a few here.........but Madrid fans had barely even heard of him. So he couldnt of been that hyped

Pacheco is the one. Barca were livid that we got him

You'd have to be asking questions of your goalkeeper if he's getting chipped from a standing position by the penalty spot. Was it Itandje?

Completely agree. I went to the game at St James Park this season and in his warm up I was completely mesmerised. I've never seen a player move the ball so efficiently and effortlessly before. It was like a 15min football art class.

If he can translate that on to the pitch in a proper game we've signed one of the finest young players in the world.
