Rash. In the last 5 years how many £15m plus players have they bought and how many have we bought?

Are you deliberately missing the point? We could have bought £15m players but CHOSE not to, instead we chose to replace 15 squad players with more squad players at considerable cost. We have spent more than them over the past 4 years, and even this past year and are still playing catch up - the reason for that is the first team hasn't been improved enough to compete with them.

We have gone from 1 point behind to 20 odd points behind having spent more than them in 2006.

So let's say it loud and clear again - WE HAVE SPENT MORE THAN MANCHESTER UNITED IN RAFA'S TIME HERE. WE FINISHED 1 POINT BEHIND THEM IN 2006 AND THEN SPENT SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN THEM SINCE THAT TIME TOO BUT HAVE GONE BACKWARDS.

When do we stop going on about their youth players of 15 years ago and the signings they made last century?

Get a grip, we are miles behind because of our transfer policy under Rafa.

oh dear rashid, again you miss the point entirely.

ok then, let me put it simply for your remedial self

so if rafa had takenover the scum in 2004 would he of had to buy craig bellamy/pennant/crouchy/kuyt etc? err no.

in 2004 we had overpaid ****e like the sheriff/biscan/smicer/diouf etc to get rid of AND replace PLUS do the neccessary housekeeping of turning around the fortunes of a pretty terrible youth/reserves system, oh and he still won stuff.

great day to be slagging rafa mate, really putting us all in the mood

The their youth team players 15 years or so ago also counts. Remove them from the equation and you won't get a dominate Man U team.

Houllier didn't give a flying **** about the academy and our youth team players, that's why Rafa had to start from scratch there.

That is one thing that you completely decide to ignore.

You also ignores the FACT that United can afford to miss out the CL a year but if we would have done that then we would have been ****ed when it's comes down to our transfer budget. That would have meant that selling before buying.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Rashid, you talk of the last 18 months.

Well Ronaldo has happened in the last 18 months. In terms of effectiveness, there isn't a player who can touch him in the premiership.
He's playing like Henry did for Arsenal.
You only have to look at the records to know the truth, he's outscored George Best's best season, that takes some doing.
The other thing is Vidic and Ferdinand have formed a great partnership.

So you've got a player who can't stop scoring and a defensive partnership playing well.

                    Not rocket science

This thread began reasonably but as evident from your responses you have used it as another one of your 'blame the Manager for everything' thread.
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.

I think the manager has to take some blame, he's spent a lot of money and though he has signed some decent players I would doubt I'm alone in thinking that he's not gotten as much out of the squad in the league as he could have done. Compare this to Everton who have spent far less but are performing at a level far above what they perhaps should be. We need a season of over-achievement in the league and I don't think we've had one yet under Rafa.

                            sad but true

fergie is knocking on though and i think rafa can take us to the heady heights given the time and money fergie has been awarded

the difference is - they've got Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, Tevez and we've got Torres, Gerrard and maybe Alonso on his day. They simply have more high calibre players than us

And the one thing that money can't buy. MENTALITY. At the very beginning of the year Pako said we wouldn't win the EPL because we don't have it yet.

We need that as much as we need FBs.
