Seen him tracking back more than once Sarah. Strange you saw something else. He even was playing so deep to counteract Eboué's surging runs and even tackled him to earn us a corner.

Would say his performance did leave a fair bit to be desires & that physical & mental fatigue is catchin up with him. Definitely needs a break on Sat.
Needs to toughen up both physically & mentally & work on his end product. Certainly has potential, but his price tag is still pretty high at the mo. Still he is very young & inexperienced & I'm sure Rafa/new number 2 will do some serious work with hi over summer.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Babbel had an off night, but so did basically all players located in front of mascher...
You can't expect babbel to perfrom, when we are overrun and none of our players seemed able to make a pass... Gerrard (besides the assist) was totally out of the game, Torres was taken out by our play and the arse defense, Kuyt did well but mainly on the workrate. Hard to expect much of babbel or anyone else when this is the case...
I would however agree with some posters, that he still have to find his ground and start holding the ball better. Next season he will be brilliant I reckon...

You must have been watching a different game. He did not play well at all and made little to no effort in regards to tracking back.Originally posted by fredo View PostLol. He worked hard mate, even tackled to put a ball for a corner when Eboué tried to get past him (which he couldn't). I think the criticism is harsh.
He played well, the whole team played well. Why point out individuals ??
Gerrard and Torres were equally well marked but chased to break up their play.

So Gerrard, Torres and Babel were all marked by 2 players each. The other 4 outfield players must have been busy.Originally posted by Chrono View PostYou must have been watching a different game. He did not play well at all and made little to no effort in regards to tracking back.

Exactly. As stated he was up against two fast and strong players in Eboue and Toure, who are both more than capable in defence. Little impact, but I could say the same of Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt.Originally posted by fredo View PostI thought he was very good and did his defensive duties last night. Can't fault him. He maybe needs to up his stamina to produce high levels of performances during a match on a more regular basis, but he's got undoubted rawness which ultimately is being polished by Rafa.
We all know Kuyt is great at working his socks off and is ideal when we are under the cosh. Babel is the opposite of Kuyt really, but still did what I would have expected from him. In fact the whole team did in defence. In much the same way as the whole team were rubbish when it came to attking the Arsenal goal, all of them gave the ball away to easily and ignored Rafa by and large when he tried to wave them out from the touchline.Forwards.......
