Shanks and his backroom staff once prescribed a diet of steaks and Guinness to a particularly weedy and skinny young lad in one of the youth teams at Anfield. After a few weeks the youngster knocked on Shankly's door an asked for a rise in his wages.

Shanks, after commenting on how well the young lad looked and how well he was filling out, asked "Why do you need a rise son?" to which the youngster replied " I've gotten a girl pregnant and I'll have to marry her!"

Apparrently Shankly leapt from his chair, opened his office door and shouted down the corridor " Bob, Reuben, Ronnie get in here, we've created a monster!!!"
