I was impressed with Lucas yesterday , mobile , getting stuck in , nice short passing game , assist for SG's goal , decent awareness.

Obviously still needs to improve and learn a lot more , but same as Babel , is doing well for his 1st season.
I expect a lot more from him next season as his confidence and experience grow

Thought the game passed him by in the first half but he was much better in the second. Still a bit lightweight but I think his desision making is good and his range of passing very impressive. Gets forward to support as much as he can and like Babel I expect big things next year from Lucas - Rafa has handled both perfectly IMO

I thought he had a really good game. He made plenty of good interceptions, and used the ball very well.

He got the assist for Gerrards goal with a lovely weighted pass, and he made the interception, then played the early ball for Gerrard to cross for Torres.

This is a lad who made is first senior appearance in any team in late 2006.

For me an immense talent and one which will grow into some player. More than happy with his performance so far.

Let's hope Rafa is just "teaching" him a new role, because he is seriously wasted as a holding midfielder.

              Unleash him Rafa!
I think Rafa is using the "holding role" as a tool to get Lucas used to the physicality of the premiership. His role in the team is clear. win the ball and play the simple pass. Keep things ticking. While not spectacular he has done nothing wrong in my eyes. I think he is a very assured player for someone so young and people on here who critisice him and being very harsh. I think next season Rafa will try develop the box to box aspect of his game. He will be a future star for us IMO. Give him time. The same people on herewho critisise him are also the same fans who slate Rafa for not giving the youth a chance. It beggars belief

don't remember lucas coming through any youth or reserve team system of ours.

i really do wish he becomes a star but as a midfielder i don't think you learn the game in stages, week 1 run, week 2 tackle week 3 pass and so on.

Where did I say he did? He is what 19/20? He was bought as a youth player and managed to make the 4th midfield slot his own ousting Momo. It's fans like you that destroy what little confidence these young players have Give him a break. He's just left home to live halfway round the world. He has to learn a new language, adapt to a new culture and try and break into a liverpool team competing in the most difficult league in world football and you are on here slating him after he has made a decent if not spectacular start to his career. Ask yourself was SG much different after his initial 10 months in the first team?

Spot on but there's certain people that only notice a good player when he's highlighted on MOTD or scores 30 goals. For a young lad starting out in a new continent he's done very well. You don't win in the San Siro with a passenger in midfield.

i've been around long enough to be able to form an opinion on my own. Nor do i expect a player in his position to score 30 goals a season.

I accept your point that he is a young player starting out in a new continent but as of yet i've seen nothing from him. I've also said previously that he will still have next season to prove himself.

My comments are based upon this thread where it was claimed he played well, i don't think he has.

I think we got our wires crossed. You implied that I said Lucas came from our youth set up. I said no such thing. He was bought as a youth prospect but has impressed Rafa from the word go and forced himself into the first team. I said I think Rafa has asked him to keep it simple and play a specific role i.e holding midfielder. Not his natural position but a role that will help his game adapt to the physicality of the premierleague. I really think this kid will make a lot of people on here eat their words. He has all the attributes needed to succeed in the premiership. Give him time. Young players like this need our support and patience, they don't need to be slated after a mere 10 months and 20 appearances or so under their belt.

If he was a local lad who came through the youth setup would your opinion be the same? Did SG make a big impact after 10 months?

gerrard didn't cost us 5 million. also imo when i saw gerrard first play i saw potential in the same way when i first saw owen and macca at about the same time.

oh and i don't think lucas will ever become a player in the calibre of gerrard first season or not.

i hope he makes me eat my words in the same way i wish voronin, kuyt, cisse, pennant, bellamy, nunez and gonzalez had.
