I agree, he is already on his way down.

Steven Gerrard - "I don't think there's anything worse than a player diving when no one's been anywhere near him. It does ruin the game. If I saw a team-mate doing it, I would definitely have a word" (The Daily Mail, April 1st 2006)

A dive is a dive whether there's contact or not. A dive is when a player voluntarily hits the deck, when a player actively chooses to go to the ground - contact or no contact.

Minimal contact does not make it okay to "exaggerate" and go down like you've been shot.

Your comments smack of someone who hasn't played much, if any football.

It's a contact sport and contact doth not a foul make. End of.
I think your comment is fair but that something should only be called a dive (and this may well be implicit in your answer) if the player is seeking an advantage. If they are merely trying to avoid being battered then even if they aren't hit at all it shouldn't IMO necessarily be classed a dive.

He dived last weekend and we got nothing from the ref all day after that. I hope he drops that from his game and continues to kick arse.

I don't know if you have ever played football, but this is done to deceive refs into thinking the defending player made the contact. Its a trick that has been used over and over again in the premiership. It was a clear dive. wasn't

The second one was a free kick as there was clear contact from the defender on Gerard. This could also have resulted in a red card as Gerard was denied a goal scoring opportunity.

I,m a Liverpool fan, but you have to call a spade a spade.
ok "a spade is a spade" and gerard didn't dive. it was a clear cut pen. friedel went through gerards standing foot. whether or not gerard threw his right leg into friedel is, quite frankly, a side issue as friedel DEFINATELY took gerards standing foot.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

No, he said the ref was right.

                                A quick youtube:

Excuse me on this one, it's an awful watch, but two of them are terrible dives:

He dives, as do a lot of players, but he dives.
The england dive is one of his best! ****ing shocking!
