No I agree his percpetion of himself is somewhat out of sync of reality. I've noticed similar traits in a lot of high achievers over here. They can lie to themselves to the point of absolute belief.

He's not found any other backers. Gillett wont sell to him. He doesnt have the funds. The 90 days will soon be up and Gillett looks like he wants out and wants to sell to DIC...

Without being blind, how do you see Hicks surviving this?
but that wouldnt make sense would it?
if your ****ed, and you know your ****ed what possible point is there in any bravodo claiming otherwise?

scenario 1- hicks is and knows he is ****ed, why waste any more time and energy to promote yourself being ****ed more?

scenario 2-it looks like your ****ed to the gen public but behind the scenes you know you have the winning hand, PC the news and wait till , for everyone else, the penny drops.

Be fair though, thicks has demonstrated, consistently, that he is a bit of mong. What was it DIC said, that he was in cloud cuckoo land?

Why do you insist on a scenario where hicks would act in a normal, non-idiotic manner and presume it's the only one possible?

As i said before, image is important and if he comes out and says 'i am ****ed', his image as a 'winner' is shot to pieces. Whether or not you feel he HAS such an image is immaterial, he believes in it and wants to see it remain intact.

Even if he plays the big man like he is doing, and ultimately ends up selling to DIC, he can easily dress it up as something he decided was the best thing to do, he doesnt have to admit he was forced into it, he can pretend that he saw another angle on it which suited him and ultimately, he can save face very easily.

          Surely you can see this??

I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't one or the foremost leveraged buy out experts in the world. I had the sky sports interview in mind, and based on watching that I'm sure most would agree he is a mong.

He's not stupid mate, he just doesnt SEE things the way we see them and he doesnt care if he looks foolish. His objective is to make money and if he walks away with $100m profit, he'll look anything but foolish in that respect.

I'm at a loss to understand how you fail to see that, to be honest.

It's like, if someone offered me £50m to walk down the street in a chicken suit, i'd do it. Maybe i'd look foolish but £50m can make people look less foolish very easily.

See if he was smart he would a) say nothing at all, and then b) sell up, and then c) tell the world how great he is for wringing 50+m out of a bunch or arabs.

This current crusade does him no favours unless he can really find the cash AND convince GG to sell to him.

                    Surely you can see that?

From his point of view, he's making all the 'big man' noises, keeping himself in the spotlight (which he loves) and will then walk away with the money.

Keeping quiet isnt his style, he loves the attention.

Why do any of you think he cares about looking 'foolish' when he'll walk away with a huge profit?

Just pointing out that there is a way to look less foolish (to the rest of the world) than he will almost certainly be perceived unless he can stump up the money.

The way he sees it overrules how the rest of the world might.

Either Hicks gets his majority shareholding or he gets forced out with a massive return on his investment of exactly **** all.

Although he will favour one eventuality over another, in his world, it's win-win.

Remember it is only in our eyes that Hicks looks a fool. The only real fools to emerge from the this sorry mess will be David Moores and Rick Parry.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

As Hicks claims, he intends to become majority shareholder of Liverpool (shudder) and head a group of minority shareholders. He may already have found willing investors.

But surely to meet the terms of any pre-emption clause, Hicks would need to secure the finance himself? Otherwise, what is the difference between Gillett selling to DIC or to Hicks' preferred investors?

If Hicks' only hope is a loan from Merril Lynch, I don't much fancy his chances.
From what I have heard Hicks can't force Gillett to sell to him but he can stop Gillett selling to DIC if he matches the offer before the 90 day deadline is over.

Then the deadlock will stay as it's now.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
