I've thought he was **** for a long time. I groaned when he replaced Aurelio. I ranted at him when his decision making let him down last night.
But. As I watch his reaction and the pounding he is taking in the papers today, I feel some sympathy for him. It's a sad end to his Liverpool career.
But. I would not have him playing in the return either. Not good enough.

Is he good enough these days? No, not really. Was that a nightmare moment? Yeah, it was. But some of the vitriol coming out tonight about him is just so distasteful.
Well said, it is absolutly disgracefull when people start slating him for an otherwise great career at Liverpool. He has served us some good memories, has fought hard for the team over the years...
He had a bad finish to the game yesterday, and could perhaps have done differently - but that is no excuse for the excesive ranting going on. He was gutted about it, you could see it.

This was the semi final of a chapions league and gifting them such an easy away goal is unforgivable. Actually I hope he never plays again for us because all he will be trying to do is take shots from every angle. He is a one trick pony and that trick has deserted him.Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

Im almost certain he will start the second leg, after all we have few better options, and I hope he plays a blinder.
I am worried for him though, his confidence has taken a beating this year culminating in that mistake last night. He's very much a confidence player and currently his confidence must be at zero. Those who state he doesnt care enough are bang out of order, he loves this club as much as anyone. He will be gutted when his time ends here in the summer.
The ironic thing about all this is that John has been a very solid defender over the last few years, it was actually his lack of attacking versatility that was hindering him.
It reminded me a bit of Jimmy Traore's howler against Burnley, I almost couldnt believe my eyes.
YNWA John. I still believe we will all be able to laugh at this on our way to Moscow!

True. He has been woeful this season, and last. Been a good servant to the club, but he's gone so far down hill it's unbelievable. He came on last night and was caught way out of position after about 30 seconds. Then he started his hoofing, then he scored a ridiculous OG that there is no excuse for. Terrible performance from a now terrible defender.Originally posted by PostmanPat View PostThis was the semi final of a chapions league and gifting them such an easy away goal is unforgivable. It reminded me of Sandy Brown's OG in a Merseyside derby in the late 60's I think. I have it on video.Originally posted by pablo1981 View PostIm almost certain he will start the second leg, after all we have few better options, and I hope he plays a blinder.

You might be right and that is a big worry. If our tactics at the bridge are going to be to hoof the ball to crouch then he might have a place, but I hope not.Originally posted by pablo1981 View PostIm almost certain he will start the second leg, after all we have few better options, and I hope he plays a blinder.

Suppose it will all depend on his frame of mind. If his head isnt right we may have to shuffle Arbeloa to LB and play Finnan or Carra RB.Originally posted by Operation View PostYou might be right and that is a big worry. Sorry AFII, Insua isnt even a realistic option just yet, not for such a huge game as this anyway. Think he will get a start on Saturday against Birmingham though.
