The goal summed him up to a tee IMO. Just sheer endeavour and heart. He had a really good game.

Displayed his lack of killer instinct and poor touch earlier however when Xabi put him in and he failed to capitalise. This is why he's far better off for having been taken out of the middle.

he's grown on me, i'd definitely keep him as a squad player on the right of the 3.

In fairness to kuyt he lost his dad last year. Both were extremely close. I lost my own dad a few years ago and we were not close by any means but it took me a long time to get over it. I think Kuyt is starting to show some good form now and is probably over the death of his dad. He is a big game player for us. I have given him some stick on here in the past but I would hate to see him sold. I think he is invaluable at the moment.

Torres was guilty of failing in his one clear cut chance too. I think that a large part of the problem in the middle was that we just weren't playing frequently enough in the final third and he is always going to be more of an Andy Cole than a van Nistelrooy in the box.

We really need the likes of Babel to learn from him in terms of getting into the box from a wide starting position though. If Babel added that to his game, which ought to be relatively simple he would be twice the player he is now IMO.

                        I knew someone'd mention that.

That's not really the point. Torres has scored 20+ league goals so far this season. Dirk's notched three, hence being taken out of the firing line.

I know what you are saying I just think that highlighting individual misses is a slightly misleading way to look at a player. I know you weren't making your judgement on the one incident but it is worth noting that Dirk has been a 1 in 2 goalscorer in the CL this year.

I agree that he had to be taken out of the centre but I'm not as convinced as you and many others that he is useless there.

His CL record this season is outstanding. Almost as good as Crouch's last season.

I have to say I cannot see for the life of me how he scored so many goals in Holland. He seems to lack almost everything required of a top marksman.

But I don't want to concentrate on the negatives. He's turned his LFC career around in the space of a couple of months. The man's heart is huge and he keeps on running like a Duracell Bunny (or was it Ever Ready?).

Shaggy is pointing out that kuytis likely to have mishaps like that quite often whereas Torres once in a blue moon!

It's no secret Kuyt doesn't have too much in terms of footballing ability but he's not the worst in that respect either and his other attributes merit him a place in the squad IMO, but if he's a shoe in to start every week I'm afraid it will be much of the same - battling for the CL every year

We need to stick to 4231 for Kuyt to have a future at Anfield, he isn't suited to up front or midfield IMO.
