"Rafa's got his Dirk Kuyt" was sung briefly in the Kop.

The other one is Emlyn's song really.

And you're right in everything you've said about Kuyt, Shaggs.

3 months ago there were people deluded in their thinking that he was a striker.

I think the argument was always that he wasn't good enough for the first 11. Most would have kept him as 4th choice...

Just wanted to say, what an unlucky player in front of goal, wish i had the stats for the amount of times this guy has hit the woodwork, another great header yesterday on to the bar. But i bumbed this up primarily to say.....That volley against Citeh, What technique, Superb, If ever a strike deserved a goal that was it, straight at the keeper though, so ****in unlucky, then the Lucas overhead kick to follow up, still no goal.

Kuyt has 11 for the season, it could have been so many more with just a little rub of the green, shame for him & us.

Fredo, half the time Sara says anything , you reply with some sort of derogatary comment. Give it a rest mate and show some respect. It is bad enough that every thread deteriates into homo name calling, the few female posters we have dont need these comments.

In the long run it has nothing to do with luck, I don't really believe in that term over a whole season. Kuyt is just not good enough, that is why his goal tally hasen't been better for us. If he hits the woodwork to many times it is not because of luck...

Anywho, not slating him he has done well lately. I am not yet convinced he merrits a place in the first 11 next season. He is not good enough for the spot he plays at the moment, and he is nowhere near Torres at the strikers spot. He can do well as a squad player, no more IMO

Obviously he's no where near Torres, come on. Anyway, football is about very fine margins, when a player strikes a ball from 25yds & it go's into the top corner, do you really believe he meant to put it in that exact spot, ofcourse not, yes the better players score more goals, fact, but luck can most definately have an effect. It's amazing how many games between equally matched teams come down to the hand of fortune.

Yes it's more about skill, determination, the latter a trait he has in abundance, but Kuyt imo has been very unlucky infront of goal. As for being convinced about him deserving a place in the 1st 11, i'm not, but i'm basing that on the hope we buy better.

Agree, with a bit more luck he would have had another 5 say this season.
                          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

if he wasn't teacher's pet he'd never get a game. i hope to god some other managers across europe see hard work and endevour as more necessary attributes than pace, skill, guile and finishing ability amongst strikers and buys this excuse of a footballer off us in the close season.

kuyt is rafa's heskey - i hope he doesn't contribute to his downfall in the same way as heskey did for houllier

Take Torres's goal against City, the way it just sneaked through the keepers legs, dont think he exactly placed it to do that, as i say, fine margins. NO. i'm not comparing a GOD to Kuyt, there's is no comparison, just pointing out luck does have a part to play.

I just don't believe in the hand of fortune, luck or whatever one might call it... It all comes down to skill in the end. The more skillfull you are, the more goals you score as a striker, save as a goalie etc. Kuyt is a good squad player, bu will never get more than the odd 10-15 goals a season, he lacks the skill. He is determined and has a work rate of incredible magnitude, it however does not make him a good striker nor winger.

For me it is simply that the more skillfull player is "lucky" because he hits the ball a bit better than the "unlucky" striker, and therefore gets more post-in goals. Luck is just an excuse for not being better when looking over an entire season IMO...
