Some would have you believe that we have been competive in the transfer market. I think the above lays that to rest.

Not to mention the £30m on Veron as well.

    And Chelsea, £24m Essien, £24m Drogba, £30m Shevchenko,£17m Carvalho, £20m SWP etc.

We've been playing catch-up for some time, Rafa has done well to keep up really.

I could have made it look even better for us by putting a more realistic value for Tevez etc.

But I just wanted to see how Manure have only spent more than us by 10M. It's obviously BS. I'd like DJS to backup those claims with hard data and see exactly how he is calculating the #'s I'm sure he's doing some dodgy BS like nett vs actual spend etc.

And the squad would have been better, although more expensive, if we'd managed to get our first choice signings.

          1/ Vidic
          2/ Alves
          3/ Simao

In all those cases a couple of million would have made the difference. We just didn't have enough to compete though. Hence we have a lot of second choices in our team.

How does your post show comparible spending since the PL began?

Oh...and Tevez hasnt been paid for.

And if you're counting Nani and Anderson at £17m each, Torres should be £26m.

If you use correct amounts, the difference is around £25m.

                Was Torres 26million?

This “since the ‘PL’ began” stuff is based on a document that has been doing the rounds for the last 6 months or so.

The document is strewn with ridiculous errors both in terms of incoming and outgoing fees. I can speak with a semblance of authority only on our transfers, but there were also errors with some of the figures quoted for United.

Nani and Anderson havent (yet) cost £17m each either. For that matter, i'm sure they havent paid the full £17m for Hargreaves as well.

Yes, but was Torres definately 26 million?

I've heard a few figures banded around, and 26 million was one of them.

We probably haven't paid the full amount for Torres, Babel or Mascher either.

                          Was he ****!

£26m was his buyout clause and Atletico were apparently ‘happy to allow that figure to reported’ in a bid to keep their fans sweet. It’s been confirmed by numerous sources (including Rafa) that Torres cost £20m (about £16.5m plus Garcia).

I imagine, when all clauses are met, we'll probably end up having paid £26m. That wont happen for a good while though. Similarly, the mancs wont have paid £51m for Anderson, Nani and Hargreaves for ages either. I'd estimate that trio would have so far cost them (in terms of transfer fees) somewhere in the region of £30m ish.

Furthermore, the mancs include signing on fees and agent fees in their transfer fees, we dont.

I reckon we might well have done for Mascher, due to the unique nature of his purchase. Babel and Torres, certainly not.
