Each to their own. I don't buy the 'great servant' stuff, it's not like he's done us a favour by rejecting offers from bigger teams to stay here and pick up a measly 40 grand a week.

I'll be happy to see him leave but if he played at Anfield again I'd applaud him for his overall contribution.

in general or just for riise?

rush, dalglish, fowler, gerard, kennedy, neal, shankly etc... all great servants. all got big thankyou and handshakes upon leaving. why not riise?

Please don't put Riise in the same bracket as those other names

In the context of whether he should stay or go I dont give a **** what he's given to the club in the past . The best teams are the ones that are most ruthless - look at Fergie and the way he has cut loose dead wood when their time was up, the great Liverpool teams in the past did the same under SHankly and Paisley. There's no sentiment in this game. The man is clearly not up to par, he needs to be despatched post haste.

I agree Matt. Riise is out for himself and that has showed lately. His performances over the last couple of seasons have been poor and he is in my eyes the reason we are not going to Moscow. The last thing he should be doing is saying he has nothing to prove and asking for answers.

It is all about him. He should know his role and shut his hole.

Jamie Carragher is a "great servant" to the club. Ian Callaghan,Phil Neal and Alan Hansen etc were great servants. Riise came and was a breath of fresh air and scored some great goals and was likeable. Then he got ahead of himself and thought he had it made.

The day you think you have made it is the end of you.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
            everyone wants to know

Riise the way he has played lately is in the Djimi Traore bracket.

If you could isolate one single reason as to why we're not going to Moscow, Riise is it. Cut him loose. No sentiment, no loyalty, just get rid.

It all started to go downhill for Crouch around the time he said he'd "made it".

                    1st team games: 347
                    1st team goals: 31
                    International caps: 70
                    International goals: 7

granted he's not as good as the above list but i still think in time he'll be remembered as a modern day true lfc (semi) legend. great servant.

All the contract renewals were done last season as part of 'phase one' by the American owners. Riise wasn't given one which suggests Rafa gave Riise this season to prove to him that he should have his contract extended. Hyypia has done well when he has been asked to fill in and fully deserved his extention.

Nah, i'll isolate Torres missing two sitters in the first match that would've buried the tie...oh, is it not allowed, criticism of Torres??

Heaven forbid Torres goes through a dry spell, or gets his head turned by an offer from abig Spanish club in a couple of years time...will we turn on him then as well??

Riise has been a great servant to the club over the past 7 years, but sadly he's lost confidence in his abilities. But I think the point he's making is if he is being let go, the club should at least do him the courtesy of telling him, which it seems they have yet to do.

What he won in the past is exactly that the past, his current form is pants and he does not have the sufficient skills to take us forward, in fact he should feel privileged to have played for Liverpool FC.

John Arne Riise you are the weakest link, goodbye!
                                We come not to play.
