Yeah he's been a good servant to the club, just because he's been here a while doesn't mean he automatically deserves a new contract, as far as I'm concerned everyone has to earn a new contract with their form and IMO his form has been average this year.

His position basically depends on the money we have and players available in the window
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Riise, who was part of the 2005 UEFA Champions League and 2006 FA Cup winning sides, has one year left to run on his present deal at Anfield but is keen to know where his long-term future lies.

The Norwegian has admitted that if he is still in the dark in the close season he may even look at a potential move away from Merseyside.

        Decision

"I don't feel that I have been treated badly, but I think that the club should have said something since I've been here seven years," Riise told Dagbladet.

"I've won everything that we have won and I've played everything that's worth playing. It's up to the boss to decide.

"It's disappointing that everything is so tight, with one year left on my contract and I haven't heard anything.

"I don't know what the manager thinks, no-one does. I don't think about moving on but something has to happen this summer. It's hard to say anything for sure but I will consider a switch to another club this summer.

"There's two games left of the season, and I can get my 350th game for Liverpool. That's 50 games a season almost, I have nothing to prove."

He is seriously deluded. No chance he is getting a new contract.
        He really has some cheek
Riise had a few good seasons when he first joined and scored some great goals. However this season has been very disappointing and really he needs to go.

I'll say something, surely 7 years is enough time to learn to use your right foot

Sami has been around for a long time too, why can't JAR get the same recognition FFS. He's played 350 odd games for us and was excellent most times. The thing about using his right foot is totally ridiculous. He's a specialist left back / left midfielder. Ask Giggs to play with his right.

Totally unacceptable the bashing on JAR. He deserves a lot more respect.

Or beckham to use his left foot...

It is an outright shame the way he has been treated as of late... Nobobdy gives Hyypia this amount of stick for the penalty in overtime, eventhough he should have learned in 10 years with us not to commit them

Riise has been a good servant to the club.

His biggest problem is the fact he isnt an outright left back, as he struggles with positional awareness. He isnt an outright left sided midfielder, as he cannot beat a player and whip in a decent cross.

Basically he has gone a "little" stale of the last couple of seasons. The renowned thunderbolt shot has been elusive and the long throw into the box is far too predictable.

In order for us to progress to another level he needs to go, we cannot afford to let sentiment stand in the way of continuous improvement.

Dont think O'Neill knows about Carew & Riise, apparently they are the best loafers in the game...butthead & beavis, anyone remember?
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Wash your mouth out. Hyypia has been one of the best defenders in the world over the last decade. Riise has not.

To question the difference in attitude is ridiculous.

Good point. No disrespect to Riise who has been a good player for us but the fact is Hyypia has been an absolute star. On top of that look up "professional footballer" in the dictionary and I suspect there is a picture of our Sami.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

I think you misunderstood my point...

I think it is ridiculous that Riise gets this amount of stick because of one mistake he makes, eventhough it was a costly one (perhaps - one can never tell how today would look if the past was changed)... I then put lt in perspective by saying others made mistakes as well, but it seems to be forgotten that a stupid penaly was made, the cross that led to the og should not have been allowed etc. etc.

There are numourous errors that could be brought up, but Riise seems to be the scapegoat for disappointment, that chelsea got through...

Riise might not have been our best defender over the last decade, but he has served us well and deserves respect for that!!
