Made this point a while ago about his lack of effort.Originally posted by kev776 View PostVeronin came on today for one of the few chances he has had this season, So giving that, one would expect a bit of rustiness etc, but what is not forgivable is the complete lack of effort he showed. On one occasion even Kuyt outsprinted him to a ball in the corner, and his feeble attempts at passing made even my 14 year old son grimmace.
If he was trying to impress potential buyers or the current management, he has a strange way of showing it. Like all players he gets a fair crack of the whip from me, but his lack of effort is criminal. Kuyty will never win a race in his life or outshine Messi with his skills but by Christ he does do a job.
Not his fault he's ****, but laziness is completely unacceptable & I just dont know why Rafa puts up with it.
Is Crouchie injured? Even assuming he's leaving, he's a far better player & offers more off the bench- plus it'd have given him chance to say "bye" to the fans.
But it's Voronin FFS.
3rd place. Worst champions ever.

voronin was always **** - rafa made a mistake in getting him. if voronin is not sold or got rid of in the summer rafa is the mistake!
i'm increasingly coming to compare some posts on here similar to the politics of new labour and the old tories. when does the situation we find ourselves in become the responsibility of rafa rather than blaming everything on houllier?

Rafa has a history of getting rid of dross or players that dont cut it quickly, I expected Kuyt to leave last summer because he was appalling but he has proved me wrong and stepped up to the mark this year. Im hoping Rafa will march Veronin out at the point of a bayonet because he makes Harry Jewell look like a grafter. We will see during the close season if Veronin is Rafas love child or just a waste of rations.Originally posted by rage View Postvoronin was always **** - rafa made a mistake in getting him. if voronin is not sold or got rid of in the summer rafa is the mistake!

The question is - are we in all that bad a position?Originally posted by rage View Postvoronin was always **** - rafa made a mistake in getting him. if voronin is not sold or got rid of in the summer rafa is the mistake!

Looking at the squad, it was unrealistic for us to have expected a genuine title challenge this year. We have to start admitting that imo. We weren't far off, a couple of stupid results here and there avoided and we would have been very close, but in all honesty, in terms of how the sum of all our players have performed this season, combined with one or two vital injuries (ie. Agger), we always were going to be a little bit off the eventual winners. I'd hope that point would be given by most people.
Now then, lets look at the first team players, apart from Voronin we've brought in in the last 12 months.
Torres - No brainer, excellent buy
Mascherano - ditto
Babel - promising, good buy
Skrtel - ditto
Lucas - jury out still, ok buy
Benayoun - Justified his move imo, but no more than that, ok buy
Looking at that, we've done pretty well in terms of personnel. With the exception of Voronin, I don't think we can say any of the above were bad purchases. And Voronin was a free transfer, basically replacing Fowler as 4th choice. Worth a punt, didn't happen. End of. Rafa has a proven record of moving on players he's brought in that haven't worked out - Nunez, Morientes, Bellamy, Kronkamp, Josemi, Gonzales etc, often without taking much of a loss, and despite having played them right up to the last day before sale.
I'm pretty sure people aren't really blaming Houllier for anything, but Rafa has had a lot of work to do to turn this club around, and an awful lot of players to move on who we were having to take big losses on. It is only really now that he is getting to operate in the transfer market with a squad that is entirely of his building, and although this summer is going to be vital in terms of him finding the few missing pieces for the jigsaw, I reckon that if we can bring in players of an equivalent quality to what we've brought in in the last twelve months, we'll be more or less there. Then will be time to judge.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Good shout. That trio cost around 50M, I reckon people forget that we spent 18M for Mascher, those three along with Skrtel re significant buys and if we can snare another three or four of comparable quality for that sort of figure we'll be well in. We have a reasonably young group of core players/spine that we can now build aroundOriginally posted by andyinswinton View PostWe would be better cutting the squad by around six to eight players and buying three quality players instead. If needs be, throw a reserve in now and again. Insua played well today and Plessis looked fine in his appearances. There is no reason to believe that others can't come in and do well.
We've brought in Torres, Mascherano and Babel, if we brought in players of the similar quality in the summer, there is no reason not to believe we can't win the league next season."I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.

I think it's clear that Voronin is better than what he has shown at LFC, he looks like a decent player when starting for the Ukraine.
But the fact he was not an automatic first choice at Leverkusen should tell anyone all they need to know. I looked on the bright side when signing him, but he has had a season and not shown anything to warrant keeping him at LFC. Some players don't settle but show enough to suggest they may improve given time, Voronin is not one of them.Forwards.......

TBH whenever I watch him I can't help but look at that retarded ponytail of his bouncing up and down. He did provide me with one moment of amusement earlier in the season though, when he was reaching for a ball at the far post (which he missed by inches), the look of 50% ball-breaking effort and 50% agony on his face, this together with the pony tail and his allround hilarious appearance had me in stitches
edit - but yeah, SELL SELL SELLSack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge
