Nail on the head ShaggyOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostThat was absolutely superb!
Against an exceptionally strong and experienced Villa side, that performance gives us something to be very excited about.
On the night Huth, San Jose and Darby were all fantastic. Insua is going to be a gem as we all know.
In midfield Lucas was excellent, Plessis played well and Flynn and El Zhar both played as well as I've seen them.
Nemeth is going to be an exceptional goalscorer at a high level (hope it's with us, natch), and Brouwer had one of his better games.
There is so much to be excited about with this lot, no-one more so than Dani Pacheco IMO. A superb cameo tonight, this lad is the real ****ing deal. Can't wait to see how he develops. I'm convinced he's going to be a star.
Well done lads and well done Gary Ablett!

I thought it was an excellent performance overall, Gulacsi apart who looked shaky throughout. Insua was his usual self, El Zhar was excellent in the first half, San Jose & Plessis very comfortable on the ball and Ryan Flynn looks better every time I see him.
Nemeth & Pacheco just ooze class though. It is one thing standing out in a reserve side but sometimes players come along and despite their age / size you just know they could make the step up to first team without it fazing them. Nemeth has a beautiful touch and is an excellent finisher and really is showing he can provide as well as score of late but Pacheco I would happily pay to watch as I reckon he is going to be a superstar. His pass for Lucas was sublime and his control was different class in the short time he was on the pitch
Future is looking good and when you see the quality of some of the youths, it justifies Rafa's policy of scouring Europe for the best young talent - I only hope some of them make the breakthrough and be stars of the future for usAt a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

one of the funniest nights i've had on the kop yet. pretty subdued throughout the first half and then about 300 kids pegged it up to the back of the stand and started chanting and pounding on the back wall. it was like lord of the flies up there and the stewards didn't have a clue what to do!!! fair play to the kids though, they never stopped singing and got the rest of the kop going. funny as **** it wasSpirit Of Shankly Member 399

How do people feel we should develop these players now. I know a lot of people favour keeping the side settled and playing together and I agree that this had advantages in terms of understanding of one another and of Rafa's systems but I think there are problems in them not facing really motivated players in competitive matches.
I know people will say that they played a physical team with some experienced players in last night but everyone knows that senior players don't give their all in most reserve games and the general level is enormously below the PL and is less driven than even the lower leagues. We have had players like Mellor be sensational in the ressies but turn out to be a decent and no more Championship player.
I really think that if this team has gelled well enough it should almost wholesale be given the Carling Cup to play in. As well as some players going on loan (preferably a group to a team with a good manager in the Championship - I would favour Swansea or Norwich).
I guess the expanded bench will give some more opportunities in the future but I think we need to develop the way we get players into the first team in a similar way to Arsenal have in the past."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I Couldnt stop laughing at that, it started as a few lads doing the torres bonce right at the back and very soon, turned in into, as you say, a something out of lord of the flysOriginally posted by RedsFan83 View Postone of the funniest nights i've had on the kop yet. pretty subdued throughout the first half and then about 300 kids pegged it up to the back of the stand and started chanting and pounding on the back wall. it was like lord of the flies up there and the stewards didn't have a clue what to do!!! fair play to the kids though, they never stopped singing and got the rest of the kop going. funny as **** it was
...from that point onwards the kop didnt stop singing and the team responded to that.

I would have really like the FA/Premier league to have turned around and have stated that the 2 extra places on the bench should available only to acadamy graduates/under 21yrs olds, something like this, which forces managers to have youth on their bench, allowing them to get a game in the matches which we are winning in and in some cases them getting a game in a competative match where injurys to certain postions force them to play.Originally posted by dww View PostHow do people feel we should develop these players now.
I feel that we should follow the arsenal idea with the carling cup and wholey play from the reserves. I would love to see a couple play more games (at least from the bench) next season.
I am always unsure of sending players on loan, as it never seams to work out for them, I agree you you are going to send them to a team, it should be a team with a good coaching/management set up which will develop the player, my only problem is all to often we send them to a team, this team starts badly or not as well as they like, the manager gets sacked or leaves and our lad ends up not playing any games, and i would rather him not play any games, but get coached by LFC staff, than not play at some championship team.Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Emiliano Insua aiming high after reserves' night of glory
May 8 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo
EMILIANO Insua today told of his desire to become a first team regular with Liverpool - after becoming a national league title winner with the Reds reserves.
The Argentinian followed his weekend Anfield debut against Manchester City with a starring role in the reserves’ 3-0 win over Aston Villa last night.
Krisztian Nemeth, Jordy Brouwer and Lucas got the goals which secured the national title for Gary Ablett's young side and Insua says he now wants to taste success at a higher level.
"It was really good to be part of a young team which won something at Anfield because we all know what a special place this is," he said. "I was lucky enough to play there for the first team against Manchester City and that has made me hungry for more.
"There are a lot of good young players at Liverpool and we all want the same thing – to play for the first team.
"I have done that but I want to do it more and more. The challenge for me now is to become a regular in the first team squad."
Ablett was delighted with the performance and attitude of his young team and challenged them to use the victory and their progress over the last 12 months as a platform to challenge for a place in Rafa Benitez's squad.
"It was nice to win because it shows how far we have come since the beginning of pre-season when you wouldn't believe how bad we were,” he said.
"Full credit to the lads for what they have achieved because they have come on leaps and bounds in the time we've had with them and hopefully now we can step a few more up from here and get them into Rafa's plans.
"We all know how difficult that will be but I think a few of them have shown their potential to do that.
"The most pleasing thing about the victory is that we had to tough it out. There were times when we were really under the cosh and for 20 minutes we couldn't get hold of the ball but with a bit of fortune and some good defending we managed to come through that.
"It was a smashing game of football andI couldn't be more happy with them. You can see how much it means to them by the way they're carrying on in the dressing room."
Meanwhile, Martin O'Neill has accused Liverpool of "undervaluing" Gareth Barry. The Reds made an offer worth £10m for Barry last week but the Villa boss insists his star player is worth much more than that.
"Liverpool talked about a £10million bid, which was some cash and some unnamed players," he said.
"That is very presumptuous of them, that the players they might be talking about, are the ones you would want – that is why I dismissed the whole thing.
"The whole story seems to have grown arms and legs and seems to be saying 'whatever Liverpool are asking for, they will get' but I don't see that as being the case.
"Is Barry undervalued at £10million? Absolutely, without question. This lad is playing for England.
"That is not to say we want to give a certain valuation and then, if Liverpool come up with it, we will do business."

I whole heartedly agree about the bench thing - I said so at the time of the decision quite a lot as well but a most people are indifferent to it and were happy to see the bench extension any way.Originally posted by machiavelli View PostI would have really like the FA/Premier league to have turned around and have stated that the 2 extra places on the bench should available only to acadamy graduates/under 21yrs olds, something like this, which forces managers to have youth on their bench, allowing them to get a game in the matches which we are winning in and in some cases them getting a game in a competative match where injurys to certain postions force them to play.

I can see what you are saying with the loans thing as well. Some players though seem to get to the stage that only competitive games can bring them on - in those instances where players get to somewhere between 20 and 22 yet still have made only a few appearances I think you have to try a loan. I suspect many others would benefit but it is a gamble. Maybe in the past a big problem has been that the players we have loaned out simply haven't been that good. Worth noting also that the likes of Ferdinand and Beckham who have gone on and often say their time on loan really helped them only played 10 or less games at that level. I suspect a large part of the benefit is growing up as a person as much as the benefit as a player on it's own."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
