oh no it couldnt be could it

I can't believe I'm getting myself involved in the argument but here goes.
Nunez was part of the Owen deal that Rafa had little or no control over because Owen wouldn't sign a new contract, said he wanted to go to Madrid and Madrid knowing this only offered the minimum to get Owen
We needed a RW, Nunez was offered in the deal, didn't work out then was sold on.
He wasn't signed on a massive 5 years contract which stopped other teams taking him off us.
Pennant was signed because we couldn't afford anyone better, now I happen to agree with you that JP isn't good enough but I wonder if you said he was ****e when he was tearing Maldini a new arsehole in the last Champions League Final.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I'd love to see Crouch stay, I think he's a very under-rated player, I can't see it happening though as under the current system there's no way he's going to play ahead of Torres, I still think they could work well as a partnership if we were to play 2 up front
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Don't know who is burying their heads here. I think talking about stunted progression in the CL when we got to the Semi-Finals is clutching at straws at best. I'm well aware that Rafa has bought some baddies, so has every other top 3 manager (I don't know why you seem to think they haven't), but obviously others can form their own opinion on the subject and believe that he has the potential to take us further. Other people clearly don't. It's a matter of objectivity at the end of the day.

Too much time gets wasted on here by discussions going round, and round, and round... I think both parties have relevant concepts on Rafa, but trying to ram your opinion down somebody else's throat is only ever going to result in one outcome.

              i would like to add

anyone with two eyes and an arsehole can see we have moved forwards under Rafa.

Whether we have move forwards enough or whether we will win the league under him i dont know. We need serious cash for some top top players. not many but they will cost. look at torres you get what you pay for.

I hope we will win the league under Rafa .

                no worries

but as you say we are going round and round

lets just say rafa can do no wrong and carry on thinking 4th is the new 1st

As for he and Riise being treated badly, I tend to agree. There was nothing at stake against City and it would've been the Liverpool way to have the lads who are on their way out on the bench to show their face at the end.

If you play Torres and Crouch then what do you do with Gerrard? you can't (or Rafa won't, rightly in my view) play him in CM as 1 of 2, if Rafa playes SG wide right he behaves like a total tart and throws his toys out, chats to Redknapp and his other mates in the media who then bring it up at every opportunity.
To much is made of 'the Liverpool way' Rafa picked the squad, they weren't in it so how about Riise saying thank you to to fans that have stuck by him for 7 largely average seasons? what about Crouch thanking the fans that didn't turn on him during 20 odd games without a goal???

The most important thing is Liverpool FC, by definition that makes the next important person the manager because he has the decision making power.
Like it or not players don't matter in the grand scheme of things.
There is no room for sentimentality unless you are a proper legend (God)
Robbie was allowed a send off, Rafa even brought him off a couple of minutes early to allow him a standing ovation.

Good, now shall we all move on, and concentrating getting the two leeches out of our club.

Houllier was sacked because we weren't progressing. We were recognised as a third tier club in European competition and his expensively assembled squad was devoid of talent and drive. Out of Benitez' inherited squad only Gerrard, Carra and Finnan were good enough. Every other position in the squad needed replacing. Hence why we've had the odd Pennant, improve bit by bit every year and weed out the one's that don't make the grade. Also the year before he was sacked (2002- 03) we didn't qualify for the CL.

Look at the squad now, brimming with youth and quality, the reserve side the same and all this on less money than Man U and Chelsea have spent. We're also now considered as one of the most dangerous teams in the Champions League and defnately a first tier European club again. When you consider the trophies we have won in this period of transition it's hard to see how someone could question Rafa's record unless they are indeed a troll.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

Small bit of an exxageration there in fairness. Pennant neither scored or assisted and Maldini lifted the trophy.

                          Tasty thread though.
