    The 'if only' men...

All this talk of Kewell has got me thinking about those LFC players who could and should have been fantastic, but for various reasons never quite became the legends that they should have been. The ones that spring to mind for me are:

Kewell - for all the obvious reasons, so I'm not going to reopen that partcular can of worms.

Colloymore - quick, two great feet, great in the air, enough skill and ability to be better than (the original) Ronaldo. And entirely let down by his personal demons. Gutted.

Jim Beglin - possibly the best LB we've ever had, but a career cut short by a terrible leg break.

Heskey - one season of brilliance, in the midst of a career of self-doubt. I thought that his 22 goal season would be a spring-board for greater things, but it turned out to be the pinnacle of his career.

McAllister - yes, he was brilliant for a couple of seasons, but I keep thinking how good he would have been for us if we'd signed him a few years earlier.

Cisse - the epitome of how the French League is so far behind the Premiership. Saw him for Auxerre several times and thought he'd set the world on fire. Saw him for Liverpool, and wished he'd set himself on fire.

David James - all the talent, but too many video games and being part of the 'Spice Boy' era did him no favours. The fact that he's still one of the best keepers in the Prem says it all.

John Aldridge - why, Kenny? Why did you sell him when he was at his peak? Instead we got the return of Ian Rush, who was never quite the same player post-Juve as he was pre-Juve, and whose 'tach was nowhere near as impressive.

    So have I missed any?

Why? He was great for us - he just couldn't score.

Injury cut short his career surely. He could have done so much more.

Morientes? All the ability in the world, just didn't adjust to English football.

Sounds silly, but Traore had the makings of a class player. Great tackler, tall, athletic. Started out looking very promising and ended up a laughing stock.

Xabi Alonso - looked very impressive in his first year but has gone downhill ever since, sadly. A prime candidate for the one-season-wonder award (currently being hogged by ivanhoe!)

Kewell and Collymore satndout for me.

Could have been the best, left with their tails between their legs

Anelka is another one.....if only Ged had of signed him instead of the 'cereal killer'

Smicer deserves a mention. Quality international record but utter pizzle for us!

True, but a CL final goal makes him a bit of a legend in my book. (it's not a very good book)

                              Good shout sir.

Remember his brace at the Reebok on opening day a good few years back?
Thought we had something special on our hands then.
