    The exchange rate issue

I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere down the line, but the signing of foriegn players may likely cost us much more this summer..........

Since last year the Euro has improved quite a bit on the pound, so any European signings are going to appear much more costly.

At around the time Benitez came in you could get about 1.5 Euros for your 1 pound. Now for your one pound you get about 1.2 Euros.

So when he came in you could get a 10m Euro signing for 6.6m pounds. Now a 10m Euro signing would cost you 8m pounds.

That is quite a difference. Maybe part of the reason Rafa may lean more to the English market this summer to gain value for money.........
    Forwards.......

But will an English player ever give you value for money?

Would Darren Bent have cost 20M Euros if he was Spanish?

            Hell no.

The English market is very over inflated and the increased power of the Euro still doesn't make it preferable from a financial point of view.

It wouldn't surprise me if we work in Euros anyway nowadays. (i.e. big clubs hold a lot of its cash either directly or indirectly (via derivatives) in Euros)

Would make sense when, let's face it, most of the transfer market works in Euros.

That would mean players like Barry would look relatively cheap.

no way, if we went to using euros we'd fully join Europe and then we'd have to get reduced working hours and extra bank holidays!!! bring it on!!!

I'd assume we have a EURO account that we and our accountants would use it to make money out of the market.
