2007/8 Player of the Season - Final Table

    FINAL TABLE:

    1. Mascherano.............................................93 points
    2. Gerrard........................................... ..........88 points
    3. Torres............................................ ...........80 points
    4. Kuyt.............................................. ............36 points
    5. Hyypia............................................ ...........31 points
    6. Pennant........................................... ..........26 points
    7. Benayoun.......................................... .........25 points
    8. Carragher......................................... ..........22 points
    9. Skrtel............................................ .............21 points
    10.Babel.......................................... ...............20 points
    11.Reina.......................................... ..............16 points
    12.Lucas.......................................... ...............14 points
    13.Aurelio........................................ ..............11 points
    14.Alonso......................................... ..............8 points
    15.Voronin/Finnan/Crouch............................7 points
    16.Arbeloa........................................ ..............5 points
    17.Sissoko/Itandje..........................................4 points
    18.Plessis........................................ ...............3 points
    19.Kewell......................................... .............. 2 points
    20.Hobbs/El Zhar.............................................1 point.

I added up your nominations for Player of the Season in the same way each match day is calculated, 3 points for your first vote, 2 for your second and 1 for your 3rd vote.

    The results were:

    1. Torres.............................162
    2. Mascherano........................91
    3. Gerrard..............................62

I found this fascinating. The perception is that Torres is our winner although the season long table only has him in 3rd place, behind the Captain. I believe that we tend to forget what has gone on in the past, and focus on the last 10 games or so...in which case Torres has set a new Premiership foreigner's scoring record etc... Also, Pepe Reina picked up a few votes in this thread since it has been noted he has won the Golden gloves for the third time in a row.

Mascher is therefore our winner, and in my opinion rightly so. His harrying performances in the centre of midfield have singled him out for special praise from the Kop choir this year...in a year where Xabi has been under-par for most of it, and Gerrard has been more free to roam forward...

    The Winners table:

    2005..................JAMIE CARRAGHER
    2006..................STEVEN GERRARD
    2007..................DIRK KUYT
    2008..................JAVIER MASCHERANO!!!

Sterling work as ever Morsey, sterling work!

The top three are set in stone IMO - simply not up for debate. You can make a case for any of them (less so Gerrard).

Last year's winner was truly bizarre and I feel the change in format has worked a treat, with exactly the right players coming to the fore.

      Masher

the top 3 are miles ahead of the rest, which just shows you the fans feelings on the massive gap in class in our squad.

      Well done Morsey

Doesn't seem right though seeing Reina in 11th. I do not play this game but perhaps a top 5 would be better using a similar system and players like Reina would get more votes. Just an idea.

That'd be pretty much half the team though. After some poor performances its hard to pick three nominations, let alone 5.

I think the system's very balanced as it is now.

A keeper is only ever likely to get voted man of the match for a crap team. I think this sort of vote under-emphasizes the contribution of a keeper but then no way of voting on players is likely to improve that IMO.

I think the only way a keeper may be fairly rewarded is if we all rated every player out of 10 throughout the season and then, of course, their ratings were all averaged out at the end of the season.

It'd be a bit laborious though huh.

Well done Mr Morse a sterling effort. People like you who put the effort in make this site what it is.
