Anyone else share this feeling?

With the hassle of next Wednesday night drawing ever closer, i was thinking about the scenario we found ourselves in and it dawned on me that not being in the CL final seems really weird and frankly, not normal.

It's got to the point where the 'norm' is basically getting to the final every year. Obviously this is ridiculous as no one is likely to be getting there on an annual basis but that's the level we've reached nowadays. And it's incredible that i feel that way because nobody has the right to get to a CL final, let alone feel as though it's the 'norm' for them to do so.

It's a reflection of the massive european strides we've made in the last half decade.

Even if we WERE lucky to win it in 2005, more recent seasons have shown that it's no coincidence that we do well in the CL. We simply ARE fantastic in that competition and keep proving to be. Before 2005 (and in fact IN 2005 itself), it felt surreal to be there. Not so nowadays.

So, am i just feeling something that isnt there, or does anyone else think it actually feels surreal to NOT be in another CL final this season?

I wouldn't say it's surreal to NOT be there, but it doesn't feel surreal to get to the Semis, which is totally different to 2005.

It just feels weird. Under Rafa, we have got to three finals in three years and this season we got to the semis. This season for me has ended at an anti climax and its not the best of feelings. I just hope the players will have also learned from this and become better from it. Its a real shame coming towards April/May, we aren't in a title race. Hopefully that changes next season.

I wouldnt say i feel its the norm but i appreciate what Rafa has done for us in that respect

My only concern is that it take incredible mental strength and determination to get to the final stages every season. Which is why i dont think we will get this far next season.

After we won it in 05, we then failed badly in 06 to benfica and didnt look like we had the hunger for it. We got to the final again in 07 and nearly once more in 08. I have a feeling that next season we might go out of the compitition a little earlier than usual

I get what you're saying. This year I wasn't a complete nervous wreck against Chelsea, unlike in 2005.

There has definitely been amazing progress and we're one of the finest teams in the world. We just need this ownership thing sorted pronto so Rafa can get the funds to finally put the last pieces in the jigsaw.

I'm confident we'll get #19 sooner rather than later.

wish i had your depth of thought, my scenarios some what different where by i hope it all kicks off and both teams get banned for ten years, how surreal is that,thats my way of dealing with it.
