Chelsea splash 16 million on a RB, Scum are after Alves for RB, we sign a free transfer that nobody seems to know much about ( apart from youtube) for RB.
Says it all really
[crying]
Will get myself ready for more disappointment then...
We could have had him for around £8m 2 YEARS AGO if Rafa had been backed...
Now again, like Vidic he'll walk off to play for the scum for a much higher fee despite being spotted by Rafa years ago...
Silvestre (OK he turned us down to join the MAncs & he's not that good anyway), Ronaldo & Vidic were all Red targets - shame we couldnt follow up & buy them
Lets hope this Deggen has some quality...
we had no chance getting alves for 8mil,each time the club went in with a bid the club president kept putting up the price.

The most telling thing is that despite interest from many clubs with bigger transfer budgets than ourselves (namely Chelsea and Real) in recent years he is still at Sevilla. It is plain to me at least that there was no economically feasible way we were ever going to get Alves.

Who the hell is this chap? We don't need more "maybe signings".... We want players that Manu, Real and Barc want.... another rubish player to add to the club....

So we should sell Agger and Skrtle as well then? They weren't worth 28 million each!

Well we can't always get what we want in life can we?
Seriously, I'm sure Rafa and the team do want players that ManU, Real etc want, except we haven't got untold millions in the kitty to spend like they have. In fact, given that the club's being run like a chimps's tea party, we're bloody lucky we've got a committed manager, and the players we've got already. What're we supposed to do, stop playing and take our ball home because its not fair? Or get on with it and try to make the bext of a limited situation.
As I said before, who'd heard of Sami Hyppia when we signed him? And who remembers Biscan having been wanted by every club in Europe? This guy might turn our to be poor, or he might turn out to have been a right steal, but deciding he's rubbish just because we weren't in a bidding war with AC Milan for him is pretty silly really

Yeah, he certainly would, although I don't see it myself, from quotes over previous summers its never sounded much to me like he wanted to play over here.
That's definitely true what you say about signings so far mate, I've been one of those pointing out the Torres and Mascher signings when people have talked in the past about the owners not giving us any money. However, I think the situation as it stands right now isn't exactly condusive to us being given significant amounts to spend outside sales,,,,especially as they'll probably point to money spent on Mascher etc recently as a justification for that too. Previously at least the chimps were at the same tea party, now they struggle to even be in the same zoo
I still think Rafa will pull one or two genuinely decent players this summer, we should still be able to make a decent outlay with money gained from Carson, Riise, Pennant, Voronin, Crouch etc, but overall I think it will be a testing one full of negotiation and budget watching, rather than a time to "spash the cash". I'd love to be wrong though.....

Probably is not a great arguement.
Hicks is smart enough to know youv`e got to spend money this season to make money next season and that soon we`ll not need to spend much more if Rafa fills the important positions with great players now.Our team is relatively young.

lol, I know it isn't, but as I'm not the club's accountant its the best I can do
Hicks isn't as stupid as many people would like us to believe, that's true. However, without looking in the DIC thread, the accepted line of thought at the moment is that he's struggling to fulfill his financial commitments isn't it? If he has any spare cash at all, I'd expect that to be earmarked to buy Gilette out. Its certainly safe to assume that we won't be getting any money from George at least, and although we have little idea what is actually going on behind the scenes, if DIC are genuinely on the verge of buying his 50%, I can't see any significant money being spend by either of them until that's resolved, one way or the other. I know its all probabilities and possibilities, but it is also a perspective based on an element of rationality.
Hopefully, seeing as we have one of the best managers around, who is used to working within a budget, we'll be able to improve enough this summer to give ourselves an outside shot next season. I do doubt however that we'll be able to do that by filling the problem positions entirely with "great" players. As I said though, I'd love to be proven wrong, really I would, but the signs at the moment are pointing more towards my scenario than yours imo.

Tor-Kristian Karlsen is a Norwegian scout who works for european clubs. He used to work as a head scout for bundesliga club Hannover 96 and as a scout for Leverkusen. On his blogg, he talks about Degen, and how surprised he is about our interest in him. He says that Dortmund didnt want to give Degen a new contract and that no other german club had shown any interest in the player. Degen isnt a terrible footballer, but he doesnt deserve to be playing in a Liverpool shirt. He says its just like when we signed Voronin. He doesnt understand why we signed Degen. When we signed Voronin last year, he said that he didnt see why Rafa would want him and he was right. When we signed Lucas, he said positive things and that he believed that in time Lucas could turn out as a great signing. I believe this guy know what he's talking about.

Degen, adds a dimension that we don't have today, i.e he is an overlapping fullback. He may not be the best in the world but he will be (approx) 100% better than we have. Could be the difference between a draw and a win against the mid table teams.
Don't care if he's the best in the world, as long as he is good enough to make the difference, that is all we need
