    Assuming that.......

Barry is playing alongside SG at Anfield next season and were we to see no more potential first team signings do you think we are primed for a good crack at the PL next year?

Personally, I think a quality second striker is a must......not too sure whether that has to be David Villa quality, however, just a quality journeyman striker who can come in and bag 10-15 goals a season. I'd like to think with the growing wealth of midfield talent maybe Babel will step up to the plate next season and show us what he's about and maybe all's not lost on Kuyt as a striking option?

Offload of the season so far, has got to be Itandje! How we got (or are to get) anything for him I'll never know.

IMHO, Top Four a certainty, PL winners...........why not?

    Interesting topic.

I believe the signings of Gareth Barry and Robbie Keane would improve this Liverpool side quite a bit actually, more than people think.

Also need a good wide man to supply the forwards and chip in with a few himself. Downing may not be everyones cup of tea but he keeps the width, provides good crosses and does knock in few goals as well..think he hit double figures last season. Playing with better quality players will help him too.

To my money we remain (assuming a Barry/Alonso swap) two players from being ready to compete - a reserve for Torres and a player capable of creating chances in tight games.

You're as good as your second string sometimes...just answer the question who will score for us when FT or SG are injured and you realise how badly we need top-notch fire-power. Perhaps someone that can also play a different role alongside FT too.

Would Benny or Babel not fit the bill here? Trickery and Guile versus Speed ability to go past a man (and hopefully score) give you options? No?

            No way..

For me Pennant and Kuyt are not strong enough for that Right hand side.

We might just get away with Babel on the left.

We need to replace Crouch because god forbid Torres should get injured, then we can't really be relying on Voronin.

We would be having to make do with good squad players as opposed to quality first team players.

Signing Gareth Barry and no one else, would not see us improve on last year in my opinion.

Striker and a winger still needed.

Theres not much confidence in our squad as it stands achieving much by few reactions above?

Are we really that far away?

              I'd like to think not.

Think by the start of the season we will have a squad well capable of winning the league, will just need to have more luck with injuries to our key players this year. Even the squad we had last year was amazing when they were all fit, with a few adjustments we will be even better.

We need to hit the ground running and playing like we were toward the end of last season... If we do that and take points from the scum early on then it's a strong possibility.

Hopefully the players we bring in during the window can settle and perform from the off, and that's why I believe Rafa's looking at bringing in PL seasoned players (GB & RK). Also, these players can see us through to Jan when further additions (if needed) can be made for the final push...

This is going to be our year. In fact every year is.

I'll still be putting my one and only bet of the year on down the bookies for us to win the League.

Good point on seasoned players and hitting the ground running. My only concern would be Oct/Nov time when CL starts and we seem to drop off the pace a little.

I can remember games last season were we completely destroyed teams. Just sat in their half for nearly all the match with the other team having to lump it out only for us to come straight back on the attack. Was great pressure and you could see the other teams cracking in the second half. With better attacking full backs we would be even better at it.

We need a top quality striker. If we sign Barry then i don't see us signing a top winger
