    Transfers Inbound

    Do we really have no money, or is Raffa and the board playing games?

    4 transfers in so far this season, 1 was free the others were all undisclosed.

    Diego Cavalieri [Palmeiras - Liverpool] Undisclosed
    Vincent Lucas Weijl [AZ Alkmaar - Liverpool] Undisclosed
    Andrea Dossena [Udinese - Liverpool] Undisclosed

    Are we hiding things purposely?

    "If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

    I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

    I don't think the amounts were a bid secret were they?

    Goaly = 3.5 mil
    Dossena = 8mil

    That's if my memory is still working OK
    Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

        It's the norm not to disclose the transfer fee nowadays. I still believe we are genuinely short of money and that Rafa has been told he has to work almost entirely from player sales. I think Alonso is the key in this. I dont think Rafa would have considered selling him if we werent short of cash. At a maximum I think Rafa has been given a transfer budget of £10-15m.

            So, a quick comp check on what the financials are so far.

            Our 4 signings have cost approximately how much, are we saying about £11m?
            Our sales for Riise, Crouch, Guthrie, Carson are looking to bring in possibly £21m?

            If this is right, we are £10m up already on nett sales at the moment. You'd think even a modest transfer budget to start with would be in the region of £20m (even £10m if we agree we're skint). So that's at least £20m if we are skint and up to £30m+ if not, to play with right now, even without the sale of Xabi.

            So, we have plenty of money then!!

              Why sell Alonso to replace him with another midfield player? If we were short of cash, we'd sell Alonso to fund the purchasing of a striker/attacking midfielder, not for a like-for-like swap.

              It could be that Rafa realises that buying Barry and keeping Alonso is not worth it, as it would leave us with too many players vying for the same spot.

              Selling Alonos is not an indication of we're short of cash, it's an indication that Rafa either doesn't rate the player highly, or he has indeed got an unworkable relationship with him.

                  Based on the business we have done (i.e. not including Carson et al), we are 8.9m up.

                          Only loan deals for these lads. Meant to have impressed Ablett after trials.

                              I'm going to be optimistic and say that we've got a bit more money than is being reported.

                              If we were so short of cash I couldn't see £3m of it being spent on a backup keeper.
