    Sponsorship Limitations

The issues with being sponsored by a beer company havevreached critical mass.

I queued up for nearly an hour in the "Build a Bear" shop in Liverpool One with my two kiddies this afternoon. While I was waiting for an overly cheerful summer job schoolie to "stuff" my kids bears, I went to look at the range of outfits available for the discerning parent to be conned into buying for their freshly stuffed bear.

Imagine my shock and disgust when I saw that you could buy Chelsea and Manure shirts but not Liverpool ones! Turns out its because of the Carlsberg sponsorship (can't get EFC ones because of Chang either)

The schoolie reckons they are getting non-sponsored ones in soon but in the meantime we must be missing out on, well, dozens and dozens of pounds of potential income

    Sack, err, someone!

(In case you are worried, my kids' bears look like a territorial army weekender and one of those ladies from Lime Street....)

Can understand why they dont sell them though if there is a Carlsberg logo on.

      Sack Parry!

What A Disgraceful Decision To Accept Carslberg As Our Sponsor And Not Only That To Keep Renewing The Contract!

The Untold Billions Missed Out From Stuffed Bear Royalties Are Undoubtedly Costing Us Any Chance Of Glory!

        Does it matter?
        Oh I don't know.

Have to agree about the Carlsberg logo. I was looking at getting the kids some branded gear today and some of the non-jersey tshirts had carlsberg on the collar. It seems ridiculous that they have to have their logo on everything.

I guess that's part of the deal that they agreed when they sponsored us.

Personally I think that when the current deal is up we will look elsewhere for a sponsor, tighter rules on alcohol advertising in the UK seem likely, and some countries band alcohol advertising/sponsorship altogether, which must be restricting the number of shirt sales and other merchandising in these countries.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Of course it matters not, I was just being daft. Thought it would make a change from endless debates about the relative merits of Gareth and Xabi

On a side note and having been prompted by the responses to my sillines, I asked my six year old lad if he knew the meaning word Carlsberg that is on the front of all of his Liverpool shirts, back of his tracksuit top, across his scarf, round the drink cup that he takes to karate and pretty much all over the new LFC shop we visited today.

Anyway, he told me to p*ss off for a bit and ask him when he'd sobered up tomorrow morning.

There is also the question of missing out on money from the US - which does matter. When I lived over there and was coaching kids football, I was often challenged by the parents about the appropriateness of exposing the kids to beer advertising. There is no question that LFC are losing out in the US market because of this and the potential losses there are huge.

Liverpool are selling both adult and childrens home jerseys without Carlsberg on the front. You can choose whether you buy them with or without.
