maybe to do with resale value of Barry, bu it is odd they are ok t spend more o keane but who is a year olerOriginally posted by Harveybirdman View PostWell he was apparently one of our main targets this summer. Maybe the owners think he would be a more astute purchase than Barry, so they are backing a bid for him rather than Barry....£18m is a joke for him.
Id be happy with either. They will both add alot to the team in different ways.

That's a big assumption.Originally posted by barnes10 View Postbrilliant statement.
rafa, 2 yanks and parry all agreed on this. wouldnt have been done publicly unless that was the case.
rafa wants barry, for sure. we all do. but im convinced everyone - rafa, owners, parrry and fans all think he's too over priced. by that i mean if we wanted to pay a may of 15 but they wanted min of 16 then it'd have happened. the extra 3 mill can be put to much better use.
Its an F Off to Villa for sure and if they want to take the p1ss with valuations, this is the risk they're taking. good luck with the unhappy barry MON.
Without a statement like this, i'd agree we look like a bunch of tight assholes. but now we've clearly just decided that enough is enough, we have the ability to get the cash together but werent happy with the price. nothing wrong with that.
however i think this spells the end of the deal tho. as we're basically telling barry that he's not worth it...

Rafa has a history of not paying more than he thinks a player is worth. So on past form this could be a ploy on our part to get villa to drop their price. This transfer was always going to be a game of Chess and unless villa drop their price they will have a player who is not happy, doesn't want to play for them and will have near no value next summer so its drop the price now or get sweet FA for him SOON.

It looks like Rafa told the owners he would buy barry from the money he got from Alonso and since that has not happened he cannot go and chuck his toys out of the pram when the owners say we cannot buy him. Rafa will understand this and will have alternatives which is what i think he said after the Lazio game in so many words.

I don't believe he will, sorry. What a ****e statement from our club. We aren't questioning the managers judgement...........BOLLOCKS. It wont work, the owners will eventually have their YES man in place as manager.Originally posted by El Jefecito View PostWell let's just hope Xabi can take his pre-season form into games where he is pressed when on the ball.
What amazes me most, is that after months of mistrust from fans, and the incompetence shown by our owners so far, so many fans seem willing to TRUST H&G's judgement over Rafas, and on a football matter too.
The difference between 14-15mill to 18, is it really a reason not to sign Barry.Last edited by Vermilion; 10-08-08, 09:57 AM.

It's been a bad summer all round. Allegations of player tapping up aren't great and as a club I think we've come out quite badly from the Barry and Keane transfers. Wasn't what we used to be aboutOriginally posted by dww View Post

It's not what we were about, but it is now with Laurel & Hardy running LFC.

Wouldn't put anything past them, i don't have this new found trust of our owners that many seem to have.Originally posted by Sarb24 View PostI don't think they're to blame for tapping up allegations though. We should just go back to doing deals on the quiet
Bascombes article stinks of the press being briefed by H&G to undermine Rafa.

Hence why MON's decision to fight his fight in public was a massive mistake. Obviously this was pointed out to him and was the catalyst to his retraction. Bloody idiot.Originally posted by dww View Post

yeah, thinking about it a bit more, fairplay to the Yanks on this point (and for also shutting up and giving Rafa money) time for us to play hardball with Villa. We seem to have been dancing to their tune for sometime nowOriginally posted by Darth Marty View PostYeah, I can see the sense in that. Regardless of how much I hate the scumbag yankee ****wit owners id have to say that over the past 3-4 months they have been far better as they have shut the **** up and been more typical LFC owners. And they have got this right too. Barry would be a good addition to our squad but not at that price. Or close to it. So, credit where credit is due. We are quick to criticise so lets be equally quick to praise.
