True, but with Rafa's knowledge and eye for a Midfielder, he might take the gamble, if

[QUOTE=ShaggyAlonso]It is mate but I just think Xabi is so important to us - so important. It sounds daft but I don't think he's any less vital to us than Stevie is. He's that good, and when you consider how young he is and how many years service we could get out of him, then I think he's priceless to us and I wouldn't sell him under any circumstances.

Who on earth would we replace him with? In theory, we could replace him with two

I'm not saying it's what we should do. However, it's safe to say that as a club we aren't loaded. Rafa might think that in the grand scheme of things we could sacrifice the undoubted ability of Xabi Alonso, for a huge sum of money, and use a proportion of that on a replacement and the rest on somebody else.

i don't doubt for one second that a huge money offer would be considered but a huge offer would have to be his real value and not the €25,000,000 or

Xabi wont be leaving anytime soon - especially for the circus that is Real Madrid.
Dont lose any sleep over it - it ain't gonna happen.

You are calling Real Madrid a circus, but I don't think Capello would stand for what has been happening in the past few years. I expect that we'll see a much greater challenge to Barca this year from Real.

real were a circus but the change in reigime at the top will help the club a lot.

the one thing that sticks out for me is that it was reported in AS which is as we know on the payroll at real.

in all seriousness though i just have a feeling that we always seem to be here every summer. 2 years in a row it was stevie and now this. i hope that it's just paper talk though. AS are about as reliable as tribal football so it bodes well but i'd expect the english gutter press to pick this up and run with it in the coming days.s

Its a nothing story guys, Marca and AS are basically controlled by Real and when an election is held then players are automatically assumed to be moving.

Its tantamount to tapping, but FIFA and UEFA have no balls. Years ago I would have been worried when the likes of Ronaldo, Figo & Zidane were moving there, but these days its a joke club. Capello could indeed work his magic, but it needs a few years of stability before BIG players deem it constructive to their careers (and not the likes of 34 y/o Cannavaro) to move there.

I think the Basque thing does count for quite a lot. He is a very proud Basquette(?) and Madrid is very political, so i cant see him moving there. He has proved by coming to us he is not motivated by money otherwise he would of signed for the Filth when they had the oppurtunity. He is motivated by success which is why he is the perfect player for Rafa and us. I know Madrid will be a success again but imo, he would find success at LFC more gratifying than Madrid. He knows his roots and that is important i feel, for him personally and proffesionally. Although success at Socied would have been that bit sweeter.
                              Xabi aint going anywere.

I wouldn't sell him for anything.

Look at it this way, who else is avaiable to buy that could do the job Alonso does for us? No one IMO. Not for much less then we'd have to sell him for.

We aren't far away from having a title winning squad if not already. So why sell a crucial cog in our wheel now? Rafa has enormous belief in him that is clear to see. Alonso not only displays qualities as a Footballer but also as a tactician himself and as an intelligent Football thinker. I think even more so then even Gerrard. That is shown IMO when Rafa most of the time calls over Xabi to issue him team instructions.

It's nonsense anyway IMO. The Spanish media is as bad as the English.
