I really think that people underestimate the fact that Xabi is Basque. As a rule Real Madrid never sign Basque players. Xabi had the opportunity to join Madrid before he signed for us. He didn't do it.

For Xabi to join Madrid, he would face the same pressure that Gerrard did from Friends and Family.
