we have no one else to play there. babel seems really rusty and if you believe some is not fully fit. i think they'll both play not sure who'll sub who though

Aurelio could start and at least do a job

If as you say Babel is struggling fitness wise then I'd still start him and ease Riera into the match. Sit on the bench and suck in the atmosphere to ease the nerves

True, but also an unknown quantity for Utd. I think it is worth a punt on Riera. He'll have done plenty of training with the squad so he should be prepared. When players are bought in the week and play at the weekend, that always strikes be as a bit desperate, stick them in and hope they do something, but I don't think it would be like that.

An isolated striker with little service will pretty much always struggle.
          Spot on.

Against top class centre backs like Rio and Vidic, you cant leave one man isolated with no service. It's asking too much.

For the same reason, i wouldnt play Keane up front on his own. I'd play 2 strikers, so a 442 formation. Alonso and Mascher in the middle.

Keane up front with Babel (someone strong and quick to be able to compete physically with their CBs) but you could interchange him with Kuyt at any point. And Riera on the left.

Said in the summer that against the top 3 sides we need to play 4-4-2 and not 4-5-1. Unfortunately we dont have the quality players to play 4-4-2

              Possibly

              Pepe

              Arbeloa Carra Skittles Dossena

              Kuyt Masher Xabi Aurelio

              Babel Keane

              or

              Pepe

              Arbeloa Carra Skittles Dossena

              Pennant Masher Xabi Riera

              Kuyt Keane

                Kuyt Keane

that first formation would work imo. dossena and aurelio overlapping and kuyt and babel interchanging. it'll be crucial for xabi to up his game and masch to keep a reign on his tendency to referee question .

what is vital, regardless of the selection is that we play at a high tempo. when we've done this against the big teams previously we've competed and indeed beat them in the past.

Torres`injury will benefit Kuyt. He`ll get a chance to strike for once and he is at his best in these big games.Gerrard`s injury i`m not too sure about. He can go missing in these big games but we all know he can win a match on his own.
Xabi needs to step up now and prove to Rafa that he was worth keeping.

Would love to see Keane open his account against the Scum.

Mascher managed to get booked last night, so he will be suspended for the Peru game wednesday

Fit and ready for the scum game then

That's good news. Does he come home early or still fly home after the Peru match?

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was hoping his captain would be fit to face Manchester United next weekend, but Gerrard insists that is too soon.

"I've a decent chance for the Champions League game in Marseille (September 16)," he continued.

"I've spoken to the manager and told him I'd like to do a certain amount of training before I come back. I don't want to go into a big game only having had one session with the boys."

Fernando Torres is on course for a shock return against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Liverpool striker limped off against Aston Villa last weekend with a tight hamstring but the injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Spaniard has already returned to training and club doctors are optimistic he will have recovered in time to face the champions.
Reds skipper Steven Gerrard is less likely to feature as the midfielder, 28, had a groin operation last week.

He is back in light training but the club is torn between having him available and bringing him back too early and aggravating the long- term injury.

I'm not sure I trust Dossena yet to play against United, Aurelio is a safer bet IMO, even though we'd have to start with Riera or Babel. Otherwise I am warming to your lineup.

                                --------keane--------

i can see babel starting this game as he must be pissed not getting on against villa and surely said something to rafa like he did last year. after that he started almost every game and i dont think riera ready to start this game. he'll keep kyut right side and surely after telling lucas he'll get more games this year in advanced role and ngog's poor showing against villa, lucas will start off keane. aurelio is a must in defense as dossena is not as strong defensively.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
