Kuyt: Oranje Are Wrong To Bench Me

Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt has developed into a first team regular at Anfield, but is still not much more than a benchwarmer for the national side, a situation which is starting to bother the forward...

Dirk Kuyt feels that he's undervalued by the Netherlands' national set-up.

“It’s always the same story when it comes to Oranje,” said Kuyt to Sportweek. “I have to convince people each time I play. I can handle it, but it’s a shame that I have to invest in it over and over again.

“I’m in a position now where I’m almost playing every match at Liverpool. It’s hard to accept that I’m a benchwarmer at national level, while I’m one of the more important players at my club.

“I’ve also noticed that he level at Liverpool is higher than the level at Oranje. We played fantastic at Euro 08 against Italy and France, but those were exceptions. A lot of club teams are better than Holland.”

The perturbed star asserted: “I want to be a regular in the starting XI with Oranje and I think I deserve it. I can’t accept being a benchwarmer any longer and I will prove my worth to the team. It’s probably going to be my last [World Cup] and I don’t want to miss it.”

However, the Liverpudlian-by-proxy is facing stiff competition for a starting berth at Oranje and it looks like manager Bert Van Marwijk prefers the likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie at the moment.

    Doesn't sound like Dirk that.

Good ole Dirkie, I can see him netting the winner on Saturday - he'll no doubt be fresh after this outburst!

Hasn't the Dutch manager already said that this wasn't a dig at him for not picking him it was more Dirk saying he intends to make himself in dispensable to the Dutch team.

Sounds plausible, I just can't see Dirk saying some of those things in the way the article portrays them, and it's a **** site and it's translated.

He was actually praised by the Dutch manager for his attitude.

He said Dirk gave the interview like he was looking in the mirror telling himself he must do better.

I am laughing my head off. He is Rafa's Heskey, being in our tean every week is not a measure of his "level".

He give 110% every time - yes I agree he is not up to the quality we need, but right now he fully deserves his place in the side on effort alone.

I would advise him to stay humble though. Always the best way.

Sod off the Netherlands and do what Carra has done.

Definitely doesn't sound like Dirk. This is the 2nd translated interview about the national team in which he's come across as arrogant and deluded, and the first one transpired to be a load of bollocks, I think? He's not very good, but arrogant and deluded he definitely is not.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yep he is. They both have something in common, they both need 'loving' Ged was a man for loving, Rafa isn't. I think it might be a job for Sammy before the Manure game.
