The doomsdayers would say that's 11 points dropped.

    Rafa must go

Very good form that is.That kind of points taly is defnately title winning form.We always come good at the latter part of thye season. We have to keep this great start going now.Less rotation i say.

I'm sure rashid and sarb will come along and put a negative slant on your ultra positive thread in mo.

PRAISE MUST BE MUSIC TO REINA’S EARS

        Pepe Reina

        Thursday September 18,2008
        By Paul Joyce

While Pepe Reina relaxed in the departures lounge at Marseilles airport, giant headphones clamped on either ear, a few seats away another passenger was thumbing through the pages of a Champions League magazine.

Emblazoned across the cover was a picture of Iker Casillas, resplendent in all his glory. If it sometimes must feel there is no escaping the man keeping him in the shadows with Spain, then Reina can at least take comfort from his standing at Liverpool.

Victory in the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday owed much to the unerring accuracy of Steven Gerrard’s shooting, but also to the ever-alert Reina who produced a tremendous last-gasp save from Mamadou Niang to prevent Marseille’s cavalry charge gleaning a point.

“I’m sure people will mention the goals on my behalf, but for me the real heroes were the back four and especially Pepe,” said Gerrard.

“He made an absolutely superb save right at the end. We all have him down as the best keeper in the Premier League and one of the best in Europe, certainly. He’s immense.

        Steven Gerrard

“It’s at moments like that when you really need him.”

Reina’s heroics followed swiftly on from his athleticism in the qualifying round against Standard Liege when, but for a series of saves, including one penalty stop in the first leg, Liverpool would be contemplating the start of a Uefa Cup campaign tonight.

Jerzy Dudek, Chris Kirkland and, latterly, Scott Carson were regarded as decent shot-stoppers by Liverpool manager Benitez, but none of them boasted the footballing intelligence and commanding presence Reina exudes.

Nor the speed of mind and ability with the ball at his feet that has launched numerous counter-attacks in recent times.

“To progress in this competition you need to be strong defensively and you need your goalkeeper to be there – and we know we can certainly rely on ours,” added Gerrard.

There is a confidence coursing through Liverpool, bolstered by last weekend’s win over Manchester United. Indeed, since losing against United in the league in March, Benitez’s team have lost only once – the Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea – and have collected more points from their last 19 league games than any of their rivals.

“I wasn’t aware of our record but that’s what we try to do – go on runs,” said Gerrard. “We know we’re a fantastic side in Europe and it’s always difficult away from home. We didn’t play well in the second half but you could see the character and togetherness. We just don’t like getting beaten.

“The mentality we have is very positive. The team were very confident after the win over United on Saturday.

“We don’t want to get carried away and start setting targets about winning things, we just want to try and stay on this run.”

goes to show that we must continue to build on the win from last weekend....stats show that we are strong at the end of the season, so what the fcuk happens at the start?.................... rotation and inconsistency?

46 out of 57 points, and that would still only put us joint top. The league is just so hard to win these days, it would be a mighty achievement.
                          Really?

i.e. if the league started from after the loss v W Ham
according to your calcs, Chelsea also have 46 points from the same number of games..
