If that makes you feel better, then hell yeah!

Any player in a team can be a matchwinner whether they score or not Craig.

If we are beating Manure in the CL final and it is stoppage time, Ronaldo bursts through and takes the ball around Pepe; slots the ball goalbound and Carra clears it off the line...

Does that not make Carra a matchwinner?

I would go along with that.

Keane is definetely a matchwinner too but he just needs a few goals to get going then he'll show us all what he's all about.

I wouldnt say so mate, because clearance or no clearance, he needed the fact that someone else scored, for us to be in a matchwinning position.

The thing that's ultimately the difference between the sides, is the goal.

But as i said, different people see it differently, so fair enough.

I think the media definition of a "Matchwinner" is someone who is likely to create or score a goal during the game. Maybe even a player who is capable of creating a goal or scoring one out of the blue.

As such Gerrard and Torres are definite inclusions. Babel and Keane look likely to step up to the plate sooner rather than later. This season Mascherano has added lung busting dribbles deep into the opposition half, but he will always be more of a game breaker than a game winner.

For Man Utd they would be Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and maybe soon Berbatov. Once upon a time Giggs and Scholes would have been on that list.

Arsenal would have Fabregas, Van Persie and Adebayor. Walcott possibly.

Chelsea would have Drogba, Lampard and Anelka. Whilst Joe Cole, Deco and maybe even Ballack could make a claim to be aded to that list.

                  -----------

Maybe the likes of Reina, Mascherano and Carra can make a claim to a title of game saver.............
                  Forwards.......

A matchwinner is someone who can pull a rabbit out of the hat and have a track record of winning us games when we least expect it. For me, thats Torres, Gerrard, Babel. Sorry Kuyt isn't a match winner because to be a match winner, you need to score goals. Mascherano isn't a matchwinner because he as well doesn't score goals. Reina cannot be defined as a match winner because his job is to save games. Yes, saving games, winning games can be interpreted as the same thing however when things are looking bleak, more often than not, we look towards Gerrard, Torres and Babel rather than Reina to win or equalise a game for us.

Track record is another phrase I used. If Kuyt wins us ten games this season, I'll call him a match winner. He has done it once so far. Keep it in your sig. It will remind me.

what I will do is remember you calling Kuyt a non-match winning player about 3 matches after he scored a match winning goal.I won`t mention his last two assists.

Champions League Final? Champions League quarter and semi final?

Surely they dont count for nothing?

                              Marky,your forgetting something.

The donkey doesn`t score in every game.He plays on the wide right of what is essentially a 4-4-3,works his toaghs off EVERY game and has probably played in more winning games pro rata than most Liverpool players in the last 20 yrs/per game.

But that wouldn`t suit the "Kuyt isn`t good enough for Liverpool" brigade.let`s pretend he`s a low scoring failure on the wing.

                                Agree totally.
Kuyt comes in for extremely unfair treatment which does baffle alot of non Liverpool supporters who rate him very highly. I think he's starting to win alot of Liverpool fans over though which is a good thing. He has frustrated me alot too with his poor finishing, touch and what have you in several games and he probably will in future but he's started this season in super form and long may it continue.
