I'd have Aurelio and Kuyt taking them, myself.

Kuyt, when not being pressed, can deliver quality, both in terms of shooting and crossing. A corner is ideal for him, he has time and is under no pressure.

Aurelio is just simply a good deliverer of a dead ball. Alonso and Gerrard shouldnt be taking them anymore.

I am baffled as to why Rafa doesnt see that their corners are usually woeful and put someone else out there to take them. It's glaringly obvious.

      Completely agree with that.

Hey - why havn't anyone just printet out this thread and sent it for Sammy Lee - I'm sure he would react by a lot of supporters discussing this weakness.

And I am sure it would get through to him - I've had letters through to several top players at major clubs in both Europe and Denmark, so go for it.

if we were only half decent at corners we'd have scored 3 goals alone yesterday. the deliveries aren't good enough as is the movement inside the box. it really does my head in that the coaching staff doesn't seem to address this problem. they've neglected that part of our game for the last 4 years.

it wouldn't surprise me if rafa wasn't interested in corners in themsleves but in regaining possession from them...you know, this obsession with 2nd balls - the vast majority of corners are a total lottery but generally having players outside the box to regain possession after the opposition clears the ball might be what rafa is more interested in. it seems strange and counter-intuitive but you never know...

And we don't boast of really tall players, apart from Sami who isn't playing regularly anyways. It's the same as crosses, the more we put those in the box, the more the chances and the probability to score.

fair enough but the deliveries are almost always tame just never seem to threat at all.

Maybe if we had some movement in the box we would use the corners better? Our players are always static in everything they do in attack.

This is a debate that crops up fairly often but on the pitch nothing ever really seems to change.

It's amazing that Gerrard and Alonso are still first choice to take them. If they aren't being cleared by the first man they're being floated in with no pace.

I used to think Finnan would be decent at corners but now the duty should go to Aurelio, Kuyt or Riera.

We've started doing short corners again recently too.

Maybe we should sign Beckham, not a bad RW and pretty decent at set-pieces to
                        Forwards.......

**** me, Alonso has been shocking at corners this season, not blaming him overall .. but you are so right something needs to be done about our delivering from corners .. I remember when we used to be quite clever with corners .. in fact it was not that long ago .. An Area for work I am sure Rafa is aware of this ... that said a couple more games of **** delivery and the fans will be quite right to get on the teams back in this area .. Not good enough right now

I have heard of a player called Barry who is meant to be good at corners, maybe we should try to sign him in the next transfer window.

what do they say about trying the same thing over and over but expecting different results?

our free kicks are ****e too. we offer no threat from set pieces what so ever. i know everyone wants to play exciting, attacking football but get the basics right first.

                              that'll only make it harder.

I think the movement has to improve, we dont have a lot of players who really atack the ball Hypia is the best at this, and I think Gerrad needs to give some other players a chance,Its mainly gerrad who takes them and when someone else does they only get 2 or 3 corners and its gerrad again.I think he should go a game without taking a coner and let someone like aurelio take a few,I also think gerrad would get more goals this way as he is good in the air or at finishing chances.
