No I'm saying that many of the Liverpool managers whose opinion I have respected over the years, can see beyond what some pundit, either professional or amateur says about players, and instead looks at how a certain player can fit into the Liverpool team.

Not how they would fit into the Leeds team in the 70's, the Nottingham Forrest team in the 80's, the Spurs team of El Tel in the 90's who were supposed to replace the LFC Machine, Man United, Chelsea, and Arsenal of this decade. That is their manager's problems!

The manager's whose wisdom I question are those that seem to buy players who even on signing, the most loyal supporters are saying "Well, how will he fit the team jigsaw?" Players in this category in my mind have been Diouf and Diao in recent years, and David Speedie and Jimmy Carter a little further back.

It is not about the player, but the synergy of a team - Perhaps this is why Gary Mac was such as success for us, he added more than his individual skills to the team.

The Cally comparison is one I hadn't thought about, but is really valid.

What was Ian's scoring ratio, about 1 in every 12 games, but he lasted 18 years at the club - Both Shanks and Paisley recognising, unlike some posters here, that sometimes people can add to the team, even though they aren't popping goals in for fun.

Out wide the only league game I can remember us losing was against United. Everyone agrees we hit form when we changed formation last year, the same formation that put Kuyt out wide. This year he’s had to play even deeper but results are still the same. Aye, we’re really suffering playing Kuyt out wide.
ahh your brilliant, insightful and eloquent comments have shot me down in flames and I now fully understand that he is the greatest winger and centre forward of his generation. I vote we should play all our under achieving players out of position from now on. I mean why has Pennant not been tried at centre half? - I demand to know. And only someone of your debating skills and superior brain power will be able to solve this riddle. All hail you

          I wouldn't sell him even for £15m.

There is only very few players that would improve the team. If you buy a flair player instead then we would miss a lot of his hard work that creates a lot of space and ball possession.

The balance of the team is excellent at the moment, that means that the whole team work their socks off. No player walks around on the pitch.

          Kuyt stays.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Whereas you concentrating and dismissing him on the basis of individual attributes, ie. lack of pace, less than prolific goal scoring record for Liverpool, while ignoring what he brings to the team as a whole is a well balanced critique I suppose?

But why resort to discussion when a petulant and sarcastic outburst will do.

You'll finds that it happens when people swear and are unnecessarily overly aggressive, intelligent people react like that rather than being aggressive back.

Actually, I did. We're both always right.

I admit he's handy in Europe (or at least seems to score in Europe), but that goal against Man City was his first in the league for 27 games or something. SWP would do so much more damage than him and, like Kuyt, he tracks back too. 12m would be a great price.

SWP was hardly so effective when given the chance at a big club though was he? he'd also cost much more than the £12m putative price for Kuyt. I think a much better case has to be made for selling a player who is part of an effective team unit at a big club than there are better players out there. Individual stats are to some degree irrelevant if the team does well which it has at the end of last season and the start of this with Kuyt as a key player.

I'm not against bringing in players to compete for his place but to sell a first choice player I really think we need to receive a huge offer. I don't see £12m buying us a player so much better that they demand that we fix what isn't broken.
