Anelka, even though it was only a loan signing, i was really excited about the prospect of seeing him in the team

About 2) I remember reading an article in the Daily Mail just after the Sutton deal basically saying that Julian Joachim could well be the first £6m player... no idea why that sticks in the mind, but it did. And he wasn't!Originally posted by carheex View Post...which signings, for us or any other team, stick in your mind and for what reasons? For me, 2 stand out:
1) the second coming of fowler. it came right out of the blue and still didn't sink in until his "first appearance" (as a sub, vs brum, overhead kick disallowed in injury time??)
2) chris sutton to blackburn for 5m. i remember very clearly reading the article over and over and thinking that 5m was a ludicrous amount of money to spend on one player. i just couldn't get my head round it at all!

The second coming of Rush beats Fowler for me. I was gutted when he left but over the moon he was back so soon.Originally posted by carheexthe second coming of fowler.
Paul Ince was definately the biggest shock transfer. It took some getting used to !
Djibs had to be the signing that had so much expectation for me.# Fernando Torres, Liverpool's number 9 #

Dalglish - I was excited at that one, but remember thinking we paid a bit much. I mean 440K was almost all the Keegan money.
Venison - my mate's Dad, an Evertonian, was laughing at me when that was announced. I liked Barry as a Liverpool player, though - he worked hard, showed consistent improvement and did the job asked of him.
Diouf - watching him play for Senegal in that World Cup I was convinced that Houllier had pulled off a masterstroke.
One I missed - Ronnie Rosenthal. I'd just arrived in Italy as part of my studies and was watching a friend's tv on the Saturday afternoon. We were losing late at home to Southampton when this sub came on who I'd never heard of before - and he looked good - Rushy scored 2 in the last 15 minutes with Ronnie's help. We never looked back and won the league.I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

Are you sure? He said in an interview on the offall that he's only ever had 1 real injury before and that was the one in the season before he joined us. You kind of make it sound like he's an Aurelio, when I don't think that is the case at all.Originally posted by dww View PostI don't think that Degen is a flop in terms of ability but the amount of time he has spent being injured is a concern. I know we got rid of Kewell and the physio has some time on his hands as a consequence but he was supposedly injury prone in Germany and unless Rafa has hitherto unseen faith in Derby then we are a bit light at rightback IMO.The Crushing Machine MKII

That was the one for me. I'd speculated about it a couple of months before it happened so when it actually came off I was flying.Originally posted by carheex View Post...which signings, for us or any other team, stick in your mind and for what reasons? For me, 2 stand out:

Blimey, for us I guess;
Collymore - He was fantastic at Forest and was chuffed when we signed him.
Ziege - An attacking, goalscoring leftback when at the time it was a real weak spot for us.
Friedel - Read a few days before he signed that he was rated one of the top 10 keepers in the world so assumed he'd sort our defence out.
Litmanen - A true superstar forward, perhaps we signed him too late, or Houlliers tactics, or just that he couldn't adapt to the PL was gutting.
McAteer - Saw him at Bolton and he looked a world beater. A case of 'big fish little pond'.
Morientes - See Litmanen above! Gutted it didn't work out for him.
Gonzalez - After so much hype, plus his reprutation in Spain I thought we were getting one of the best wingers in the world.
Fowler - All time favourite player, I was over the moon when he returned.
Probably a few more that I've missed... can't really think of any other teams at the moment

Collymore and Morientes are the 2 signings that had me creaming myself.
And to think i thought Torres would be too much of a gamble!
