looking back at recent years and the players we 'could have signed' such as ferdinand, it seems year on year these missing men are being missed less and less
i genuinely think agger and skrtel are going to be our good cop bad cop pairing for years if they keep fit. agger is the classy challenger and skrtel obviously the machine. they remind me a lot of the 1999-2001 henchoz and hyypia

He has so many options that sometimes a mistake like that happen because he believes so much in himself, it's called overconfidence.

He could play in a central midfield/left back/defensive midfielder position without any problem. He is a better version of Kompany and he is great player.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Daniel Agger’s Anfield relief - Liverpool FC latest

Oct 20 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

DANIEL AGGER today held his hands up for Wigan’s opening goal at Anfield on Saturday and admitted he was a relieved man when Liverpool went on to record their latest comeback victory.

The Danish defender made his first league start in more than a year in the Reds’ 3-2 win over Steve Bruce’s side and he conceded there were times when he found the going tough.

Agger was robbed on the edge of his own box by Amr Zaki as Wigan took the lead but recovered to play a vital role in setting up the equaliser for Dirk Kuyt.

Now the 23-year-old (left) is hoping that he will only get better with games after a “tough” return to Rafa Benitez’s starting line up.

“Of course I was pleased to start the game against Wigan, it was what I have been waiting for,” said Agger.

“It was a stupid mistake to make for their first goal but that’s football and you can’t afford to dwell on things like that, you have to carry on.

“Luckily enough we managed to go on and win the game and obviously I am very happy about that.

“It was a misunderstanding and I didn’t hear anything but it was my mistake and I can’t say anything more about it.

“Today was tough for me. It was really, really hard.

“Of course, it is a long time since I last played so I have to get used to it again and then I will improve.”

Agger was delighted that he was able to help his team get back on level terms and vowed to continue to get forward into attacking positions whenever possible.

And he is hoping that Liverpool will start to make life easier for themselves by getting out of the habit of going behind, even though he firmly believes the fact the Reds are turning losing positions around is a good sign.

“I will always try to go forward and try to create things,” said Agger.

“Today that happened more in the first half than it did in the second – I couldn’t move in the second half because I was so tired, it was very tough.

“It would be nice to get an early goal sometimes because maybe then we wouldn’t have to work quite so hard.

“With Wigan going ahead twice it meant we all had to work even harder, everyone was running.

“That meant everyone was tired after the game so it would be nice if we could make life a bit easier.

“But if you can win games like this and some of the other games we have won when you are not playing really well, when you have one of those days but still get three points, it is a big thing.

“It is something you definitely need to have if you want to be near the top of the table. I've been reading on the internet about my mental strength and it is right - I am strong mentally and I won't let mistakes affect me.”

Meanwhile, sources in the Middle East today indicated that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s interest in Liverpool is unwavering.

An offer remains on the table for the Reds but the ruler of Dubai is unwilling to pay any more than he believes the club is worth.

Re: the mistake. Yes his first touch was poor but it was his reaction to seeing Zaki charging him down that worried me most. For his 2nd touch he had time to boot it clear, but instead he tried to take on Zaki and failed. That's what allowed Zaki to nick the ball away and score.

Anyway it was very sloppy, but seems to have been a blessing in disguise. It was a wake up call for him and he reacted in the best possible way.

It's an absolute joy to watch him bring the ball out way into the opposition half. Its like having an extra midfielder. The lad is grace personified on the ball and also has a great eye for a pass. I honestly can't think of a better footballing CB in the world. He gives us another dimension, and its a huge, huge asset for us to have him back.

He did that move against Robben a couple of years ago. Worked a tret and looked good.

                        Oh well..

Very true. A bad touch followed by a bad choice.

Taking the blinkers off, he was pretty poor overall. Gave away one goal, wasn't convincing for the second. A poor performance saved by a wonderful run and layoff, and a high reputation.
