In the cost-to-contribution ratio, he delivered in multiples, far outstripped his fee

Came into defence at a time when we were totally clueless at the back and together with Henchoz - who shouldn't be forgotten either - sorted the whole sorry business out

Was not on the radar of any other club when we bought him, literally came out of nowhere for me.
    Would have to agree there.

        Gary McAllister for me.

I thought he was an over the hill has been but he proved what a top player he was in our Treble winning season. A real class act and that free kick against the Bitters lives long in the memory.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

I reckon that might be a popular choice, of those there nowCamara, Smicer and Riise probably shouldn't be; Riise was rated when he arrived, Camara was ****, and Smicer actually only ever had one good game for us... even if it was the game that really mattered
          Cheers Mr. M...

I don't quite agree Camara was **** he suprised me very well in the start, and scored some really good goals.

Riise was very young (20??) when we signed him, and I did not know much of him back then, and he was a positive suprise to me at the time, up untill a couple of seasons ago.

Smicer I could agree should not be there

maybe Didi Hamman for me, just turned out to be a real rock for us.
I've also got to add in Mascher as well, he just seems to be getting better and better for us.

oh, just seen the list and would add Pepe as my choice from the list. Didnt think he was all that when at Brca and seemed ok at Villereal, but has really developed superbly for us/.

Think I'll agree with Hyppia. Had never heard of him before he joined.

Still early doors yet but I reckon Riera will be on there in 12 months.

Not only did hardly anyone have anything positive to say about the fella, there were plenty of negative comments about him. And he's shaping up very well indeed.

Hard to answer. Sami in a way, but I had no expectation as I had not heard of him. I'd go for Barry Venison. I expected very little (was even embarrassed when we signed him) but he did a good job for us.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I know it's very early days but I've been more than pleasantly surprised by Riera.

Barnes and Beardsley were possibly our two best ever simultaneous purchases, but they were class players before they arrived. Aldridge was a bit random, but actually managed to fill Rushie's boots in '88, when we played some amazing football.

                      Hyppia obviously, £2.6m wasn't it?

                      Or Rob Jones maybe?

Edit - ****, yeah magicalbarnes, Gary Mac, good call
                      Aldridge random?

Really? I seem to recall there being a LOT of speculation about us signing him before we actually did. If memory serves he was playing a blinder for Oxford, and the fact that he's a scouser meant it was quite obvious. In the days before the interweb rumours were quite hard to come by, and I was only 15, but I recall it being well sign posted.

In any event - a really dependable player whom we sold him way too soon. I almost bumped into him W Ham v Liverpool a few years back and I was itching to tell him that - not sure he would have liked being reminded!
                      Really?

Other - Riera, early days I appreciate but I was genuinely unhappy when we signed him, I thought it was a panic buy after the Barry farce and after all he had previous with city.

In reality he has been a revelation and has given us so much shape its unbelievable. Im now convinced Rafa is a genius.

Totally agree with all of that. I'd also add that I remember being at his debut, at Sheffield Wednesday. Despite being hideously drunk, I vividly remember one of his first contributions being a woeful decision to let a ball bounce over his head. I thought "Oh dear".

Since about the 4th minute of that debut, he's been largely imperious. What a signing.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
